We had picked the Craanford Mills as one of the places to visit, I enquired in the local shop how to find it. The very nice shop assistant said it is just down the old, but it is closed as the elderly couple are in hospital. We drove down to have a look from the outside, it looked quaint and lovely. Hope the owners will be well soon.

I was really keen to visit based on the reviews here - love finding the little gems - and it was a mere 30 minute drive from where we were staying. Unfortunately when our little convoy of 3 cars arrived early afternoon, we discovered it was shut. Alas! Asked the guy in the funeral parlour opposite the mill who said it had been shut a few days due to illness, and what a pity as the mill was the owners pride and joy and what a great tour we would have had. It did look very pretty from the outside!

This is a unique offering with a grossly undersold profile...partly because the eldetly proprietors Mick and Anna form part of the experience that is rare and precious.

Having read all about this place we drive quite a journey recently only to find the gates firmly closed. Had hoped to have coffee etc there and have a look around. Very disappointed.

It’s often the little gems that are the most memorable and Craanford Mill outside Gorey is one of them. Restored as a labour of love by Michael Lyons who worked there as a young boy - the Mill having been his family for generations it is well worth a visit. He gives tours and is a mine of information on the history of corn grinding back to the cavemen and don’t miss the home baking in the coffee shop run by Mike’s wife.
An absolute delight.

Craanford 17th century watermill is situation in the village of Craanford, just of the main road between Gorey and Carnew, it is worth going off the beaten track to see this watermill and visit the village. The watermill was restored by volunteers and brings life from 300 years ago back to life. It is a small attraction but it is quaint, cute and highly interesting. Open in the summer and staffed by local volunteers who are only too glad to chat to you, give you the history and help you find all the other interesting things in the area. They will even make you a cup of tea and have all the time in the world to spend with you. Highly recommended.
