I spent a couple of hours in this bookshop between the books and the coffee shop. Love the quirky nature of the bookshop - which houses a HUGE selection of books. I spoke at length with the owner who was very friendly and informative.. will definitely be back

The Zozimus bookshop, tucked in behind the Book Shop Cafe on Gorey's Main Sreet, is a real find. A small maze of floor to ceiling bookshelves constitutes an Aladdin's Cave for bilbiophiles. Nearly all second-hand, the books range from rare first editions and other collectibles to paperback faction selling for a few euros. The proprietor knows his stock inside out and was able to meet this couple's very different requirements - Irish social history in the 60's on one hand, and Elinor M Brent-Dyer's school fiction on the other!

John has got to be one of the most helpful guys on this planet. He wil look for anything you need and normally find it at a reasonable price. The ability to take a few books and check them out over a cup of excellent coffee is just amazing. Love the whole idea.

This is a review in two parts. The bookshop, which occupies the back half of the large ground floor, is of top quality. John, the owner, has been in the book trade for years and it shows. The titles on his shelves are top rate and there is a wide variation of subjects. A book hunter should allow at least three hours to study the holdings. Meanwhile, the front part of the shop is a cafe. Both my wife and I agreed it was a class apart from any other similar place. My soup was home-made; the salad and meat were locally sourced while the just cooked cakes were to kill for. A superb place to visit.

Zozimus is a beautiful and brimful secondhand bookshop at the back of a vibrant and tasty cafe. The bookshop is larger than one may think and contains a considerably large amount of good stock. Of note are the various specialised Irish sections, which both contain the unusual and unexpected while managing to feel curated and not filled mercilessly with pitiful titles.
Irish Crime Novels - now that’s a book section!
John, the owner is exceptionally well versed in literature and a very personable and friendly owner, generous with his time and himself a man of letters with expertise and a publishing history in matters such as Flann O’Brien and localised poetry with great customer service and charming approach.
Every time I visit - I find more gems.
High Shelves and every nook has stock to consider. The rare and unusual sections deserve the title, while younger readers passing through seemed delighted that Harry Potter is stocked!
For book lovers - this is a stop you need to make.

I've been to this book shop many times and I always buy books when I visit. It has an amazing collection of second hand books at reasonable prices. The lovely Althea is the lady that works there and she is very kind and helpful. A must visit if you're in Gorey.

I reviewed this bookshop in 2016 and have bought all sorts of stuff from John in the intervening years and it is still the mark of excellence. Recently I wanted to collect some first edition childrens books for my grandchildren and he got me (close to) first editions of 1950 Enid Blytons. I was delighted.
Thank you John - long may it last.

Busy spot bang in the middle of Gorey's Main Street. Feels a bit busy and cluttered but food is excellent. Had breakfast which was cooked to perfection and excellent value. Could become a regular!

The best cafe in Gorey with the added bonus of zozimus books attached! Lovely homemade food in comfy surroundings and so friendly and warm. John the owner has a quirky and varied selection of second hand and antiquarian books. He is a very knowledgeable and helpful presence and the childrens' section is delightfully different. Such a relief to get away from chain store books and coffee!

The staff is very helpful and friendly. They have a good selection of used books, best suited for the casual browser rather than the person looking for one specific title - though they may have it if you ask. The bookshop is in the back of the Book Cafe and is well worth a visit.
