Dalkey is a posh suburb of Dublin on the Atlantic coast/Dublin Bay. They are very proud of the famous writers associated (sometimes even just briefly!) with Dalkey (George Bernanrd Shaw, James Joyce, Maeve Bincy etc) and the history of the town. For the uninitiated, Dalkey gets its name from an island just off its shore, Deilginis, meaning thorn island. They... More

We saw some mixed reviews but we found this a very fun, though compact, attraction. The staff/actors were excellent and catered to a group of four adults (us and another couple well). We found it to be a very informative and enjoyable experience. The surrounding town is a good break from central Dublin too.

We enjoyed our tour and found the ancient structures intriguing. The tour was most engaging and included some "enactments" that were well done and entertaining. But these castles are a bit mischaracterized by the name - they're more like fortified storage units with living quarters, where the British merchant class defended their wares and wealth from the natives.

The castle was a nice train ride south of Dublin. The train ride itself had nice views of the sea. Dalkey itself was nice to walk around and visit. Nice places to eat, gelato was so so. The castle itself was really nice....10th century church on the grounds with a 13th century addition, no roof as it was wood and... More

We traveled from Dublin via rail to a very interesting town . The tour , the characters and presentations made for a very enjoyable afternoon. Learning the origins of so many things along with the humor added made for a pleasantly memorable experience .It will be hard to not share or keep this time "under my hat " with others... More

The tour is fantastic! It is very interesting and fun. Everyone there was very nice and the in costume characters were wonderful. They involved people on the tour and made it fun for everyone involved. I would highly recommend the tour to anyone looking for a good and interesting time and wants to learn about Irish History.

What a wonderful place to visit for people of any age! The staff in Dalkey Castle and Heritage Centre were extremely welcoming from the minute we walked through the door, and our guide for the Living History tour, Will, was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable on the rich history of Dalkey. Having lived in the area for over 2 years... More

The interactive Heritage Centre was great, but unable to access castle because of my disability. The staff were wonderful and did all they could to help me see as much as possible. The castle was not as large as we had expected, but we were pleased we made the effort to go.

I went to Dalkey Castle with friend and we absolutely loved it! It was so much fun to be guided by living history actors through the Castle. We learned how to shoot a longbow, how to dance and eat in medieval times at the Castle and had the privilege of being treated by the Lady of the Castle itself. I... More
