I have seen Salvador Dali paintings there and another time a travelling exhibit from the Holocaust Museum from Washington D.C.

Reece Museum is located on the campus of East Tennessee State University but its exhibitions are not focused on a student audience but on the general public. They present excellent exhibitions of art as well as historical and local general interest subjects. Staff members are always available and helpful. One downer is that due to the limited budget and staff, they are not open on weekends which should be premium time for visitation.…

I have been spoiled by museums at Duke university and Penn State so this small facility is a bit of a come-down. However if you are visiting Johnson City it is worth a visit.

I was looking for a good summertime activity for my nieces and nephew when they were visiting for the week. When it's hot outside even the area playgrounds are not real enjoyable. We did enjoy this museum, even at their ages (4, 7, and 9 yrs). All of them found something interesting for them. Afterwards, we walked up to Ball Hall to see Slocumb Galleries which is small but enjoyable.…
