This was my family's very first rafting experience. We are a family of 3 and opted for the upper river excursion on August 18, 2018. Our guide was very experienced, personable, friendly, etc. However, we were assigned to a raft with another family of 4....More
We visited when we took our granddaughter on her generation skipping trip. This whitewater trip was one of the highlights of our trip. We had chosen the upper portion with Class III and IV rapids - and we experienced a rafting trip worth every penny...More
Highly recommend booking your rafting trip with these outfitters, the guides are awesome and the rafting is amazing. There were more 3 and 4 rating rapids than 1-2, so if you are looking for a wild ride down the Pigeon River go with them on...More
We rafted down the Pigeon River on the last day of the season. My husband and I had rafted with Rafting in the Smokies before we had kids and were happy to raft with them again. It was our teenage girls’ first time and they...More
My husband and I really enjoyed the rafting experience. It was exciting enough for his adventuresome nature but not so rough a ride that I was too scared. Our guide was great - his name is Fletcher. Fletcher was funny, patient. and helpful. We knew...More

The lower river is more of a family float. There is a little excitement on the lower river and so if you want to keep it a fun family affair, then do the lower together and everyone will have a blast for the first time. If you don’t mind being split up and Dad wants to push himself with 10yr old, then it will be a ride of a lifetime...but they should be good swimmers. If they don’t follow directions, well they will go in! The upper is class 3 and 4+. It’s a ton of fun and we just brought my 11 almost 12 year old this year...after my wife and I did it 2 yrs ago. The guide makes the difference and so request Staci if you do upper! Hope this helps!
Rafting in the Smokies Zipline or Foxfire Combos (4 Replies)
I'm considering the raft/zip combos for both Foxfire & Rafting in the Smokies. Foxfire will use Smoky Mountain Outdoors for the rafting part, which has good reviews. The reviews for Rafting in the Smokies are good, but don't refer much to their ziplines. The website says they are 60-90 feet long. Foxfire claims they have a couple lines 600-1500 feet long! Foxfire would cost our family about $70 more total, so I'm wondering if the experience will be worth the extra $$$.

I can tell you that our family did the Foxfire zipline a couple of years ago when it was nearly brand new. Their property was great, zipping from tree stand to tree stand was a lot of fun for our first time doing it. Everything was new and safe, it seemed top-notch and our guides were very helpful. We have another trip to Smokies planned soon, and we plan to zipline again, but want to try Wears Valley this time. No reason other than it's a bit closer and we're up for new adventures. We also...More
ZIPLINE with "Rafting in the Smokies"... (3 Replies)
Has anyone ever done the combo raft/zipline with "Rafting in the Smokies"?? it looks like they recently added the zipline portion and want to make sure it is good. We like Climbworks reviews but they are so expensive...any suggestions??

We will be there the week of June 20th, and are doing the combo. We have done the raft portion a few years ago and it is great. We got the zip line added in for about $25, which is about a third of what you pay at other places. I will update this after we get back and let you now how it went.
