This lake is quite a hidden spot that is so close to NC and SC. The water was cool and such a beautiful shade of green. The mountains surrounding the lake is very picturesque. There are a few places to pull the boat up to the shore and play at the water's edge.

Full disclosure: I love close to the lake. My review, however, is unbiased as I have visited dozens of lakes around the country. This lake is reputed to be the second cleanest lake in the country (not sure who claims first place). Anyway, the water is clean near the shore and the lake is deep. It's a favorite with fishermen... Love this place. Great place to just unwind and picnic or get a boat. Easy to get to from Boone. We go for just the day and have never been on the water but will soon.

Are family had a great time wake boarding and knee boarding on the lake. Plenty of room and always felt safe in boat traffic. The water was so beautiful and calming and the scenery was picturesque. No wet suit needed. Plenty of marinas to rent a boat from by the hour or day. Cabins are available for rent. A must see... The scenery is very beautiful. There are lots of rocks though and makes it painful to walk in or around the water. There really is no shaded or covered area to gather. There are tables with grills but none that are covered. It cost 2 dollars to get in. There was broken glass everywhere. With a little work this place... More

My review is for Watauga LAKE and Rat Branch boat launch, not of any campgrounds. We have a pontoon boat. We put in at Rat Branch boat launch which is a spacious, well maintained launch with a wooden fishing dock. There is also a small floating dock to tie one boat at a time to when launching. There are also... More

A place to just sit, relax and enjoy the tranquility of the glistening water on a beautiful sunny day. The sights and sounds of boats, birds, etc. are so soothing! A wonderful place for a picnic!

I am a frequent camper. I don't expect the Hilton. I camp travel as much as possible on a budget and of course to be outdoors and I love it. However in all the years and campgrounds that I have stayed in this one ranks as the absolute worst. I would highly recommend you find another campground. I reserved 6... More
