This trip is the right length at almost 4 hours. Any longer and I would have gotten bored with similar views most of the time. One side of the train sees forest and rocky mountainside right up next to the train. The other side stays...More

My hubby and I decided to take rgus train ride before heading to Chattanooga. It was awesome. We had the dome cars so you could see everything. The announcer was so clear and very informative. They even played the banjo and sang for us in...More

We had a chance to experience the train ride along the Hiwassee River and loved it. Total ride along the river and up the mountain and back was about 4 hrs. Amazing how high up the mountain the track goes and there’s even a section...More

This is a short review of the Hiwassee Gorge train ride. Parking is limited. They put you in non air conditioned school buses for a 15 minute trip to the train from the station. You then board the train and all you see is trees...More

We (4adults) took the Hiwassee Loop Ride and sat in the glass domed car. It took 3 1/2 hours and the time flew by because they kept narrating & entertaining you. The scenery was lovely and we loved hearing the history of the railway. We...More

Took the ride with some friends that were fans of trains. But there isn't a lot to see and it is just a loop, no destination, and they cram you in crappy school buses to get you to the train ride. And it is expensive.

We rode the 8 hour Copperhill Special on a Saturday in Spring from Etowah to Copperhill, TN / McCaysville, GA. Good equipment, great friendly staff, and a beautiful ride along the Hiawassee River up to Bald Mountain near the NC border. Here you complete a...More

We have taken several train excursions, and this is one of the best! We took the full-day Hiwassee Loop trip. We parked adjacent to the L&N train depot in downtown Etowah, picked up our tickets in the train depot, then walked 2 blocks to catch...More

Nothing fancy but comfortably refurbished train cars (ours was 1948) with small snack bar onboard. The trip winds around the banks of the Hiwassee and Occoee rivers and climbs a loop up Bald Mountain. Very enjoyable scenic views. The tiny town of Copperhill has various...More

Don't remember the actual price but it's on the website. We sat in the top of the dome car, great view but it's nearly as good on the lower level and looked like there was more room.

If you do ride the bus, it is very crowded. When the bus drops you off, it is about 100 feet from where you board the bus. Not far at all. There is a covered ramp to get to the train. Also, the seats in Coach do recline.

Should be, particularly if it's a nice light rain to bring out the colors of the foliage. You're only outside on the walk from the station to the bus (or your car) and from the bus to the train.
