I love taking my family here for picnics. There are multiple hiking trails for people of various abilities. The picnic area is well maintained. There are lots of areas for kids to run and play. Also, the views are spectacular. If you get a chance to go to the Vistor's Center, you should take it. This is a fascinating place... More

This was breathtaking. Note, it is not at the same location as the raccoon mountain caverns. It's about a mile away and the sign says 'TVA Pump Station'. It didn't say anything about trails or an overlook. We turned around at the entrance and went to the cave, then they told us we had gone to the right place the... More

While hiking along Lookout Mountain, we met a couple who asked us if we had been up to the Dam on Raccoon Mountain. We had told them we had never heard of it and they encouraged us to go talking about how beautiful it was. It was so close to Lookout Mountain that we decided to hike there as well.... More

Hiked 20 miles around Raccoon Mtn and the TVA dam area on the top. Lots of nice wide clean trails around the dam, top and bottom in the woods and in the sun. Some sites had picnic areas and bluff trails. Lots of bikers on the trails too. Lots of serpentine trails and some elevation changes to get you out... More

A bit out of the mainstream but worth the detour. There are 20+ miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking, plus picnic areas around a reservoir, courtesy of the TVA. Gently undulating trails of dirt, rock, and last year's dried leaves lead to rocky overlooks and open onto steeply sloped piles of rock resembling moonscapes. Quiet envelops you. It's... More

Do not confuse with the nearby cave. This place is absolutely beautiful and offers some of the finest, unspoiled views in the area. They have a nice walkway by the river and picnic tables literally right up against the river. There were some fishermen along the bank and other riding bikes.

If you want to see a big government project, this is one for you, they pump water up, then let it out to generate electricity. Went there for the mountain bike trails, which were good, with various skill levels.

We drove around Raccoon Mountain and dam. Climbed the mountain for a drive along scenic road winding around the reservoir and saw deer and wild turkeys. Educational and interesting place to visit.

When we visited in April, the Visitors' Center was being redone. At that time, there was just one bathroom available near the picnic tables. We thought there would be more hiking trails in the area, but we did enjoy the views. We had our picnic lunch on one of the tables. it was not crowded on a weekday afternoon in... More
