Did you know The designation of DUKW is not a military pun - the name comes from the terminology used for military vehicles in World War II; the D indicates a vehicle designed in 1942, the U meant "utility (amphibious)", the K indicated all-wheel drive and the W indicated two powered rear axles.

Although technically a misnomer, DUKWs are often referred to as duck boats. Another popular nickname was old magoo or simply magoo. Though the origin of this term is unknown, it probably refers to the odd shape of the vehicle.

DUKWs became known as ''Ducks'' and are still in use, as well as purpose-built amphibious tour buses, primarily as tourist transport in harbor and river cities.

We had a great time toodling about the Tennessee River. Our driver was hysterical and made the trip very enjoyable. Toward the end, he allowed any who wished (starting with kids), to drive the boat an opportunity to navigate the WWII amphibious "DUCK" boat. Wonderful experience, however the child who drove the last few minutes kept us spinning in a... More

While in Chattanooga we took a trip on the Tennessee River in a WWII amphibious Duck. I recommend this tour to view the scenic Chattanooga riverfront and learn some history at the same time. The very pleasant and informative tour guide provided information on the DUCK and local area. The tour was not rushed and you might get a chance... More

The most fun your kids will ever have! The ducks go thru Chattanooga then into the river. The guides give you the history of the city along with current recommendations. And they let your kids have a turn driving the duck! Don't miss it!

This duck boat tour is an hour well-spent. So much to see and learn about the Duck Boat and the city of Chattanooga.

As two-year residents of Chattanooga, my beloved and I are continually amazed by the amount of activities this city has to offer. Our most recent discovery was the opportunity to experience an amphibious adventure on the Tennessee River with our wonderful guide, Capt. Scott. It was afternoon filled with information and fun. Definitely a must for tourists and Chattanoogans alike.... More

The tour guide was very knowledgeable about Chattanooga and a really nice guy. Driving into the water was such a fun and different experience. You pretty much drive to the water, float up the river a ways and then come back and drive out of the water. Definitely worth the time and money :)

A few weeks back we were in Seattle. We just got off the plane after a long flight, hopped in the taxi, and boom...stuck in horrible traffic on the way into town. Turns out, we were right behind an accident in which a tourist carrying duck vehicle collided with a bus. There were several fatalities involved as well and multiple... More

What a neat experience. The 'Captain' was very knowledgeable about the history of Chattanooga and also the history of the Native Americans who were in the area first. He was also very interactive with the passengers, especially the kids. Be aware you may get a little wet but it's worth it.
