Did you know The designation of DUKW is not a military pun - the name comes from the terminology used for military vehicles in World War II; the D indicates a vehicle designed in 1942, the U meant "utility (amphibious)", the K indicated all-wheel drive and the W indicated two powered rear axles.

Although technically a misnomer, DUKWs are often referred to as duck boats. Another popular nickname was old magoo or simply magoo. Though the origin of this term is unknown, it probably refers to the odd shape of the vehicle.

DUKWs became known as ''Ducks'' and are still in use, as well as purpose-built amphibious tour buses, primarily as tourist transport in harbor and river cities.

I have lived in Chattanoiga for many years and my grand daughters wanted to go on this before they started school. So I took each at different times. Had Scott and Rob as the Captains for the two times I went and both were so informative on the history of Chattanooga. I have lived here since 1978 and heard some... More

It was so fun riding on the Ducks! Driving around town and gaining knowledge about the town was great. Then going fast down into the water was very fun, and the. Floating on the Tennessee River with Captain Rob giving us lots of information on Chattanooga and it's history was great. My son Aidan getting to drive was a great... More

You can walk the riverfront or the bridge. Or you can see Chattanooga from the Duck Boats. They drove us through downtown and into the River. Not only was the mode of travel exciting but educational. The tour guides shared interesting facts about the Duck and Chattanooga. I strongly suggest put this attraction on your list. It is good for... More

This is not an attraction I would have typically thought much about, but a friend said that it was her family's favorite attraction. My son enjoys the history behind the war vehicles, so the duck trucks were very interesting for him. The fact that they drive on the road for part of the tour, then drive straight into the river... This is one of those rare experiences that should not be missed. This was kind of special for me that my great uncle was a driver during the D-Day Normandy landings. Our driver, was a local and gave great narration during ride as well with some good humor. My son even got to drive the Duck for a little bit.

We visited Chattanooga to take in some of the cities sites and decided to also include the Chattanooga Ducks tour. We are so glad we did! The tour was so much fun and the tour guide was so informative. We learned, not only information about the city, but also of it's history. My kids LOVED the tour guide. Be sure... More

They even stopped to let us watch a fisherman pull a huge catfish out... More

It was very cool to ride in an authentic ww2 vehicle (70 years old and still ran great) and our guide Dave (the splash) made it a very fun and informative experience, keeping everyone entertained including the kids.

Our guide was funny and knowledgable. Kids loved it. Expand to 90 minutes, please, with more history. Tripadvisor won't accept my review until I make it longer.
