Did you know The designation of DUKW is not a military pun - the name comes from the terminology used for military vehicles in World War II; the D indicates a vehicle designed in 1942, the U meant "utility (amphibious)", the K indicated all-wheel drive and the W indicated two powered rear axles.

Although technically a misnomer, DUKWs are often referred to as duck boats. Another popular nickname was old magoo or simply magoo. Though the origin of this term is unknown, it probably refers to the odd shape of the vehicle.

DUKWs became known as ''Ducks'' and are still in use, as well as purpose-built amphibious tour buses, primarily as tourist transport in harbor and river cities.

We had a great time on this trip! Would highly recommend for kids. They really enjoyed driving the vehicle while it was in the water.

E loaded up on the historic Duck truck/boat and received a thorough safety briefing. Our driver/Captain was a fantastic narrator and knowledgable historian for the area. The ride was fun and informative. Along with info on history and culture we heard a lot of great information on local businesses, services and restaurants.

We've been to Chattanooga many times, but this was our first time on this tour. You can save a little money by booking online. We took our two children ages 7 and 3. The captain shared interesting historical information about Chattanooga. He gave the kids a chance to steer while on the water.

I was born and raised in Chattanooga but had never done this until I was 26. I learned things about Chattanooga I have never heard and saw things I've never seen. It was a fun, relaxing tour through the city and up the river. I'm definitely taking my friends when they come in town!

We went on the 10 am tour on August 4th. I had 3 teens with me (Ages 13, 15, & 16) and we all loved it! We had Rob as a guide and he did a great job, informative and fun. We actually left there and went to check out a couple more places he pointed out on the tour.... More

This was the best duck ride I've been on. Our group from Texas enjoyed "Splash." He was well informed and gave the grown ups great details about the city. We had a group with several younger children along and he made it very entertaining and interesting for them as well. Great person to deal with everyone the way he did.

My wife recommended that I take the Duck tour. It was great! The captain/tour guide was on his game. Kudos "Splash"! He knows his facts and was a pleasure to have. He entertained the kids aboard and was excellent. Take the time to go here and have fun.

I have lived in Chattanoiga for many years and my grand daughters wanted to go on this before they started school. So I took each at different times. Had Scott and Rob as the Captains for the two times I went and both were so informative on the history of Chattanooga. I have lived here since 1978 and heard some... More

It was so fun riding on the Ducks! Driving around town and gaining knowledge about the town was great. Then going fast down into the water was very fun, and the. Floating on the Tennessee River with Captain Rob giving us lots of information on Chattanooga and it's history was great. My son Aidan getting to drive was a great... More
