We visited Chateau Historique de Pierreclos on a wine tasting tour out of Mâcon while we were in Lyon attending the Women’s World Cup. Since we were there to taste the wine (during one of several stops) we spent our time in the wine shop and wine cellar and did not tour the castle. We had several samples of different wines and our host explained the differences in taste and quality. Most of the wines were produced on the estate, but they also had a fine selection of some others from the area. Bottles were also available for purchase. The chateau, surrounded by vineyards, looks like it would be a great place to spend several days while exploring the area.

Thus Chateau has self guided tours available. They take about an hour and are wonderful. The Chateau has its own chapel as well as many original medieval rooms and stairways. After the tour you can taste their amazing wine in the gift shop which is a great way to end the day.

An impressive looking Chateau with it's own vineyard. There is a an armour room where you can actually try out wearing armour and handling weapons, my boys loved this. There is a kitchen, bakery with quite a few hands on activities for the kids and areas where they can sit and fill out the form given in the shop. We had a wine tasting and overall I found this a great experience and also not too far from our next destination the rock of Solutré!

The Chateau is remarkable, with a 1000 odd years of history. You go on a self guided tour to various parts, high and low, with some rooms done up in the style of yesteryear and others with explanations in English and French that are informative, easy to read, without taking all your time! I loved walking into the tiny turrets as well as seeing the dungeons but the best is an appreciation for the history. The ghosts of the past would be happy with the story.

This old chateau has a beautiful gated entrance leading into well looked after gardens. The original church was damaged by fire and only the tower still stands. Inside the old kitchen is laid out to show the original positions of the ovens, fire place and storage. In the cellars they have wooden farming equipment is on display. This lead us the wine barrels and the wine tasting. A range of wines were available to taste and our host explained the differences in taste and quality. Bottles of Burgundy wine were available to purchase. As this was an organised trip we did not see the bed and breakfast accommodation, however details are available on their web site Definitely worth a visit
