Recently had the opportunity to spend time in Bristol, VA and Bristol, TN and we stopped by the Race track or Speedway for Nascar. They had a Christmas light show that was amazing. Lots of lights and lots of decorations. Good for the December time...More

We visited the Bristol Motor Speedway during Christmas, which is the offseason for NASCAR. But, the Christmas "Speedway in Lights" show was amazing for the whole family.

The Bristol Motor Speedway was great. We had a bit of trouble with the weather though. It rained on Sunday, and snowed on Monday. The track was great.

Went to see the Christmas lights at Bristol. Wasn't overwhelmed with the Christmas lights at Speedway in Lights. The area is so large causing the lights to be far apart. There were many advertisements of commercial enterprises. Not many moving displays. Enjoy the Kodak, Tennessee...More

So slow. Wayyy to spread out. People moved at a crawl. Took us 2.5 hours to get through it. Not a ton of lights. A couple of displays were pretty great to see, the rest, meh. I would skip this, especially with younger kids. Takes...More

Everyone knows that Bristol Motor Speedway is a jewel in the Tri-Cities. The colosseum is massive, absolutely beautiful. Great family fun.

Honestly, the best part of the Christmas light show at the speedway was that we got to drive on the racetrack. Other than that, it was a waste of time. It was a very basic light show that a typical homeowner could do at their...More

Great place. It is amazing. Make sure you take the van tour as well as visiting the gift shop. Even if you do not watch Nascar, it is a great place to visit. Wunderful experience!

This was our first time to just drop into a major Nascar sanctioned track. Everything was open including the gift shop, ticket window and track itself. It was quite a thing to see in person. We took a tour that proved to be one of...More

Eat at Aubrey’s in the shopping center near Bass Pro Shop. Getting a good hotel at a fair price is tough during most race weekends. Typically have to find one in Bristol Va, or Abingdon Va. Most hotels close to the track... More

Distance from Bristol Motor Speedway? (2 Replies)
How many miles, time? This is the nearest location, north of the track.

Mapquest.com shows that Pounding Mill is a small rural location on Route 19 between Richlands and Tazewell, VA. Mapquest shows driving directions from there to downtown Bristol as 60.4 miles, or 1 hour and 10 minutes. However, accordign to the Speedway's website, the speedway may be a few miles further south beyond Bristol - their map seemed a little hard to read..

Want to spend a day at Bristol Motor Speedway. Can anyone tell me how far away it is from Pigeon Forge and is it an easy drive? Has anyone done the Speedway tour? How was it? Is it worth the trip?

We drove over to it a few years ago....maybe 3?? I'm thinking it took about 1 1/2 - 2 hours to get to the track. The drive wasn't bad at all. It was the weekend after the August race & we had been in contact via email a few times before we ever left home for TN to make sure they would be doing the track tour...we were assured they would be. But....when we got there, they were doing some work on the track so it was a no-go. We could go into the grandstands & look around, but that was about it....More

Day Trip from Gatlinburg to Bristol (5 Replies)
Husband is a big Nascar fan and hoping to check out Bristol Motor Speedway. On the interstates it takes 2 hours, but I was wondering if the scenery is worth it to go through the Cherokee National Forest to Johnson City and then up to Bristol, which would take 3 hours. Has anyone been to the Speedway, would it be worth one of our days since we will only be there three days?

Please consider that internet mapping services do not factor in crowded roadways in the GSMNP. Since you do not state where you are departing from nor which time of year you are visiting, then it is hard to give a more precise answer, but here is a try. Generally speaking, it will take you longer than 2 hours travel from say Pigeon Forge to the Speedway. There are several ways in which one could travel from the GSMNP area to Upper East Tennessee. Personally, I prefer the non-interstate...More
