In August, I took my grandkids, ages 6 and 7, on the Explorer tour. I booked through an independent adventure company that failed to reserve it properly. When we arrived the following Sunday, the cavern staff was unprepared. They didn't bat an eye (pun intended) and rather than disappoint the kids, they scrambled to find us a guide. Steph quickly responded and she was absolutely awesome. Not once were we treated as an imposition and the tour was remarkable. It was no surprise when the kids were begging to go back about as soon as we left the parking lot that day. This past weekend, I scheduled another tour and this time booked through the caverns rather than the third party. I spoke with Roger, who was very accommodating. I told him about the kids' enthusiasm from the previous tour and I specifically requested Steph as our guide. Roger explained that he was already scheduled with a group for that tour and he offered to add us in. He assured me of a challenging and rewarding experience so I booked it. When we arrived at the scheduled time, Roger informed me that I had been overcharged by mistake. I would have never known had he not volunteered the information so I was thrilled when he offered us some complimentary gem mining. This was a highlight for the kids and the value compensated far exceeded the over-charge. As tour time approached, the kids got another special surprise when Steph showed up to assist Roger with our group. Those two didn't disappoint as they challenged the kids to belly through tight spaces, climb massive rocks, slide down muddy slopes and forge through 50-degree water. After two hours, the group emerged from a tiny hole in the ground and the kids were delighted with their sense of accomplishment. As we were leaving, they told me it was their "best day ever" and they couldn't wait to go back to school and tell all their friends.

What a great experience! Leah, my tour guide made sure everyone in the group had fun! Some of us got to crawl in the caverns and others got extra time for pictures.

We had a small group that was friendly and enthusiastic and Leah took us on a delightfully slow journey back into history and into the depths of the earth!

She is extremely knowledgable and engaging, and I decided to go to Appalachian Caverns instead of a different cavern that is more commercial and so happy that I came here!

Family owned and operated and lots and lots of great gems and crystals for sale at the best prices I have ever seen.

Good signage and good google maps directions made it easy to find, always a plus when traveling!

Don’t let the unassuming exterior detour you from this visit! Our guide, a nice gentleman who will offer “high fours” to your group was fun and appeared knowledgeable. The tales he tells will convince you that he knows what he is talking about. Very good about making sure everyone is aware of possible issues like bumping heads or slipping in wet areas. Although this cave is not one to overwhelm you with formations it will will stories! Although it is a bit pricy, the entertainment value is great. This is a privately owned cave so it is not hugely commercialized. The tour allowed us to go at our leisure with only one other family of four. They had two well behaved kids and it was enjoyable watching them be spelunker’s at the end! Worth a visit! The drive to get to it is beautiful and we loved seeing the farm life up close!

On 2/15/20 my husband and I paid to take a regular walking tour of Appalachian Caverns. The gentleman at the front desk was very friendly and seemed knowledgeable about Blountville and the caverns but we were given an18 year old male guide to accompany us through the caverns. At first I thought he was just nervous and trying to hard to be funny but his comments then turned pretty vile against females and children. He spoke more about himself than he did the caverns. He even made the statement, “ I’ll never have kids because if I have a baby and it vomits I’ll make it lick it up.” He was extremely disrespectful and disturbing to say the least. The caverns were beautiful, wish I could have learned more about it!

Me and my family went to the Appalachian caverns the gentleman at the cash register was friendly and so was the guide. But when we started the guided tour the guide was very nervous and seemed not to know much about the cave. The tour lasted about thirty minutes and the guide was trying very hard to be funny but all he did was make my family very uncomfortable with the jokes he made. The inside of the cave was very beautiful and quite a sight to look at especially from lovers leap. I wish we could have learned more about the cave but the tour guide we had wasn't very knowledgeable and very immature. Would not reccomend to visit for others.

My family and I had the pleasure of visiting the caves Wednesday August 5. The staff couldn’t have been kinder or friendlier. Special thanks to Sean (sp?) above ground and Roger in the cave. From my 8 year old daughter to her grandmother, we enjoyed the walking tour so much we sent the teenage crew back the following day for the wild adventure. It was one of the most memorable experiences of their lives let alone our vacation. I could write a book from all I learned about the caves and the history. The tour completely changed my perception of the lifecycle of a cave and the effects of the environment around it. Absolutely awesome. Looking forward to going back.

Took a chance and visited the cavern, and so glad we did. It was one of the highlights of our trip. It is a very unassuming place from the outside, but once you go through the entrance door and descend into the cavern it's like being in another world. The six of us had our own private tour with Greg, and he was amazing. He explained the history of the caverns formation and its forever changing structure, its function during the Civil War, and its history with the local Indians and their ancestors. This is a must see if ever in the area.

Our family (including two teenagers & a 60+) had a great time on this tour. It’s an easy walk with just a few steep/slick places, so make sure to wear shoes with a sturdy tread. The staff were kind, knowledgeable and entertaining.
