About
Once a humble small-town drugstore that offered free iced water to weary travelers, Wall Drug is now a buzzing 76,000-square-foot roadside attraction that draws travelers to this small city in South Dakota. Here, you can shop for Western-themed apparel at the shopping mall, snap a photo with an 80-foot brontosaurus in the kids' area, and grab a 5-cent coffee and one of the best donuts in the U.S. at the restaurant. And don't leave without getting the iconic Wall Drug bumper sticker—it's free!

Wall Drug Store established in 1931 takes up quite a bit of real estate in Wall with many gift shops lining the street on the other side. The inside of the Drug Store is like a maze with one store leading to another and another until you become lost inside! There is a Café with large dining rooms lined with beautiful western art. Be sure to get a 5 cent cup of really good coffee and a piece of pie or a big delicious frosted or cinnamon donut. Meals are also available for purchase. If you have room, you can visit the Ice Cream Parlor or Candy Emporium which will satisfy all your sweet cravings.
There is a large parking lot and lots of street parking which is free. Entrance to the Wall Drug Store is also free. And it’s lots of fun! We visited four different tourist sites in one day between Sioux Falls and Rapid City and they were all free. You can detour to Badlands National Park and The Wounded Knee Massacre Site and Memorial from Wall or go on to Rapid City. There are many Native American Sites, shops and museums to visit as well.
I have attempted to post photos on Trip Advisor from four different states during our travels, and from home. The site doesn't seem to be working properly. So no photos with this review.

It's like walking through a themed hotel in Vegas. If you get your mentality set to that expectation, then you can enjoy it for what it is. As you walk around, there are different stores for different goods, such as camping, books, etc. There's sections of souvenirs and those items are sold at multiple sections. The line to the cafe was much too long so while curious about the 5 cent coffee experience, we didn't think it would be worth hanging around. I apparently also missed the jackalope out back but did catch the dinosaur nearby but didn't think it was worth stopping for. There's benches with statues of people sitting on them that you can pose with. Knott's Berry Farm used to have that but not sure what other amusement parks had them, for reference. (I marked travelled as solo because there's no family option w/o children. Some of us drive around our senior parents. That's family last time I checked.)

So, we were literally going to drive right by and my husband and I decided to stop because we both have pictures of ourselves as kids on the giant jackalope. It was lunch time, so we decided to eat and walk around some with our 11 year old. The key to Wall Drug is to know what the place is. A GIANT, tacky, overpriced souvenir store. Though it seems they've expanded since I was last there, half of the interactive stuff was closed or not working. It was busy. Yes, they have a billion things, but I'd rather see some nice LOCAL souvenirs, not a toy store with everything in it that kids could want. Even the "nicer" areas like the artwork and pottery, weren't local-made items. We ate lunch (waaaay overpriced for the quality and quantity), walked around for maybe 20 minutes, then left. It's an oasis in an otherwise empty stretch of interstate, but be prepared for your kids asking you for everything they see!

Hello LB i,
Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience! I'm glad to hear that you and your family were able to stop by again, and I hope your 11 year old had fun! I apologize that some of the interactive attractions were closed the day you were here as some days we are short staffed. Thank you for your patience. We do carry lots of local souvenirs and artwork. Thank you for your input! We will make sure we create better signage for our local items. Thanks again for stopping! Happy Travels!

We saw signs in the interstate forever. We looked online driving and decided to stop in. It was very cool. If you want it, they probably have it. The cafe was a little pricey but we bought multiple souvenirs and did not regret stopping

Oh, how we had the curiosity of a cat I suppose. We read the history in our travel books and the reviews of Wall Drug online (which were mixed) and could have skipped it and not wasted the hour we were there. This looks nothing like a drug store or drugstore diner. It is a maze of add-on stores/rooms filled with cheaply made souvenirs and old shellacked pictures and articles on the wall. It was very dingy, very crowded with low ceilings which made us all look for an exit. Bathrooms were a hunt as there is so much junk on the walls you couldn't see the signs.
You may think you will miss something if you don't stop like every tour bus full of seniors (I am one) but unless you are attracted to old outdated stuff Walmart style with your common name on it RUN and you will thank me later. The reviews on the food had us leave and go elsewhere to eat. Honestly, I wanted to buy something to support the business .....a drink or snack but it was such an unwelcoming place I was more than glad to get on down the road.

It seems the ubiquitous Visit Wall Drug signs start just west of Chicago, so points given for tireless self-promotion. That said, it's worth skipping. Shelf after shelf of expensive trinkets, and prices are high-$16.00 for two ice cream cones. If you need toiletries, you'd be well advised to visit the grocery store three blocks up, or better yet get them in Rapid City.

If you are visiting the Badlands, you must stop at world famous Wall Drugs. You need to experience it, just to see what the hype is about!
There are literally hundreds of roadside billboards coaxing you to visit, making you curious enough to stop. We are glad we did. Is it touristy? You bet! But this is a fun place, friendly people and lots of stuff! It’s huge, with multiple sections, filled with everything imaginable and unimaginable. Jackalopes everywhere, delicious homemade donuts, great ice cream, some very reasonably priced souvenirs, specialty items and more. We found some great t-shirts that were better than other places, and at a fair price. As anywhere, you need to watch your prices, but there are some good deals to be found here.
Just walking through and marveling at all the displays made it a fun family experience. You can also stop in at the Traveler's Chapel, see lots of old west memorabilia, and don’t forget to venture outside in the back for more old west displays and a fun water spray for the kids to cool off.

After racing past Wall, SD on the interstate half a dozen times and never taking time to stop, this trip out west we finally made it a point to find out what's the big deal about Wall Drug. The big deal is that a drugstore evolved into a western themed tourist's shopping complex that occupies an entire block of the tiny town. In fact Wall Drug's block is equivalent to about half of the entire downtown area.
The line-up to eat at the cafe was lengthy, but we'd just had lunch half an hour east at Al's Oasis, so we weren't hungry. We did spend about an hour perusing the shops and gawking at floor to ceiling wild west decor and souvenirs.
There's no admission charge to enter, and everything is wheel chair accessible, if you can find your way through the maze of people. Public restrooms are out in back of the mall indoor, where the old west has been recreated in a small museum with a Mount Rushmore replica and a wooden water tower.
We visited during bike week at Sturgis, so the streets of Wall were lined with iron horses coming and going, which made the town a lot more interesting. If you ride in on a real horse, the old hitching posts are still in tact out front of the drugstore.
For hubby and me, this was a nice pit stop for stretching our legs and breaking up the monotony of highway driving.

You can easily spend hours in here because it is so large, crowded and diverse. We did not even get to all the other tourist stops along the same section of downtown street. The only real negative was the Cafe. The food was obviously preprocessed and really over priced. The coffe, however, which is 5 cents - was very good,

Who could resist visiting Wall Drug after 65 highway signs heading west, especially because it is convenient and part of Badlands culture. The store is huge and designed to shuffle a multitude of people. (It would have been a nightmare in the pandemic!) We had sandwiches for lunch and found the system accurate and efficient for feeding such a number of customers. The parking is all around town and I would think a person in a wheelchair or walker would have considerable difficulty.
The staff is friendly as you travel through the various departments following the store map. We munched on donuts, drank free water and had 5 cent coffee. Crowds don't make me feel like shopping so I passed on $600 western boots and $1.95 souvenirs made in China. It is a good experience but not one that I want to repeat.

Can you tell me if there are groceries you can buy there? If I wanted to make a steak at my cabin, do they sell them? Eggs, milk, bacon, potatoes? Things like that. Let me know if you can.

To my knowledge they do not sell groceries there. I think there is a grocery store in Wall, SD, however.

Basically right across the interstate. (7.6 miles or 11 minutes) The drive through the Badlands returns via the Interstate. It is a great drive.
