The USS South Dakota has some very interesting history. She went through many battles during WWII. Although the entire ship is not there, there are enough pieces and the wall in the shape of the ship and a lot of interesting stories telling of her battles. Unfortunately, the museum was closed the day we were there so all we could... More

This is not a boat... it's a public park that made a replica of the top of the USS South Dakota. There's a few things from the actual boat, including some plank boards, but for the most part it's a concrete outline / replica. The kids though this was great. Tons of room to run around and enjoy the fresh... More

This is one of the best military museums we have ever visited. Although the actual USS South Dakota was not there, its complete silhouette is outlined by a small wall with a ship's railing. Actual artifacts from the ship are spotted around the space, including a 16" gun barrel, a 5"/38 barrel, a pair of Bofors AA guns, the ship's... More

Interesting place allows you a chance to see how big or small ships were during the war years. Nice to see they take care of this space as well.

Enjoyed the unique approach to the outside museum. Signage was terrific and very educational. Be sure to read the long sign dealing with the 16" guns. Wow...nicely done. The inside museum is very well done. The small model of the USS South Dakota was to be expected but that large model was terrific. They have done an excellent job telling... More

My son (10years old) got to pick the next place we visited in Sioux Falls and this was his choice, it was amazing! The idea of how large the ship was, the actual pieces of the ship the photos, news articles and stories!! It really brings history to life and makes the sacrifices of our service men and women tangible... More

The former history major in me put on my nerd glasses and spent over a hour walking around and reading every thing about the ship. The actual size of the ship is amazing as well as the great museum in the center are wonderful.
