About
The South family established Strawbale Winery in 2006. constructed of straw bales, the buildings are insulated for a prairie-style wine cellar, and an atmosphere of country farm living. Treat your self to relaxation and fun. Tucked in a farm setting between a 100-year-old red barn and established shelter belt, the straw buildings, vineyard and animals may remind you of simpler times.

Great stop on a girls weekend
Feb 2021 • Friends
This small shop was a pleasant surprise and one we will be sure to visit again. Friendly service with plenty of suggestions and samples, unique and delicious selection of wines and over the top staff made this one of our favorite stops. If you’re in the area it is definitely worth your time.

Good wine
Oct 2020
Rude but good wine. I am handicapped and was chased down for parking in a handicapped spot. You can't see everything like a cut or bug bite. Watch how you treat people!

Pretty fun!

I have been here multiple times and iv always had a great time. The wine run has wine slushees after that we’re AMAZING. The live music was cancelled due to weather but I’d like to make it again sometime on a nicer day. The twilight flights were impressive and worth the money in my opinion! I love the free roaming chickens a cats, very cute and beautiful location to taste wine

Authentic Delicious Experience
Sep 2019 • Family
A new experience for us, fruit based wines. Very tasty and surprising. Cellar door service was wonderfully friendly. They even gave our son chalk to draw with and seeds to feed the chickens whilst we had a tasting. Beautiful setting with lots of hens and chicks and guinea fowl wandering throughout. Highly recommend a visit.

Country delight! Wine tasting and music in a relaxing outdoor setting.
Jul 2018
We really enjoyed an evening of visiting, eating pizza from a street vendor and drinking wine while listening to a live country duo. Comfortable Adirondack chairs were provided. We will definitely come back!

Friendly and beautiful
Aug 2018 • Couples
Winery is easy to get to and find. Lots of wines to taste and all the ones we tried were very good. My favorite was the Blueberry Wild. Tasting room is beautiful and has lots of seating. The grounds are beautiful and tranquil. The best part of our visit was visiting with our server, Susie. She was a delight and knew the wines well. Once she found out that we were from out of state, she told us about local attractions we could visit. So glad she told us about a hot air balloon race scheduled for that evening, it was the highlight of our trip! Wish we lived closer so we could visit more!

Awesome laid back ambiance

What a great find! The old barn , beautiful grass area and the music on stage was a lot of fun and a reminder of simpler times. You can bring your own chairs or they do have some available on the grass area. There is wine tasting $6 for a five pours.
We weren’t crazy about the wine but it was fun to try some local unique fruit wines. It was definitely the farm type setting that made it. There were also two food trucks on the day we went.

Rustic Setting- Try Red Barn Red!
Oct 2017 • Couples
We have visited Strawbale a couple times now and think it is one of the best in South Dakota! The winery is set on a farm and has many rustic buildings that give it a peaceful and homey feel. They also have many events for the public here during the summer which provides many opportunities to try their tasty wines. Our favorites are Red Barn Red and Prairie Storm. Definitely worth checking out!!

Winters are long in South Dakota. We enjoy blending and trying new things while waiting for spring. Burning Bog is one of those Fun Wines. Thank you for your kind words.
