Due to unforeseen medical issues I was unable to participate in a highly anticipated adventure to tour Savannah, GA. Fortunately for me, Carrie went above and beyond any of my expectations by providing refunds, compensations, and future activity scheduling. Carrie’s compassion, empathy, and concern for my well-being totally exceeded that of any booking agent or guide that I have ever worked with. In fact, it seemed to be her primary focus. In addition, she went beyond any expectation of me ever recovering any prepayments I had made by providing qualified refunds, compensations and opportunities to schedule future excursions. I am so grateful for Carrie’s kindness, expertise and energy. I will definite be on board (probably no paddle, however) for a future Black Hills Adventure outing!

To make sure we get to see the best sights places have to offer, we favour an organised tour. We booked the Black Hills Private Tour of Mt Rushmore & Flume trail hike and it was an excellent day.
Collected from our accommodation at 830am we started off with a circa 4.5 mile hike around the Flume Trail that lasted around 3 hours.
Lunch followed at the Alpine Lodge Inn before heading out to Mt Rushmore. The monument is incredible and we had ample time to look around the museum before heading back to our accommodation.
The tour was well organised and our day was all the more enjoyable being hosted by Karen our personal tour guide. She was extremely knowledgeable and happily answered any questions we had even if they were ridiculous and not relevant to the tour! Great sense of humour and great company.
Would recommend, fantastic tour.

My mother and I used Black Hills Adventure Tours for our South Dakota adventure and we cannot speak more highly of this company and our tour guide, Mark. Over the span of 3 days, we did the Private Custer State Park Jeep Safari and Hiking Tour, the Private Badlands Package, and the Horseback Riding and Black Hills Hiking. There is no way we would have been able to see all that we saw without Mark. He really made exploring (and the logistics of getting into parks and stopping for lunch) 10000x easier.
Mark really knew all of the good spots to check out, and personalized our packages to our own wants. He was extremely knowledgeable about all things South Dakota: the history, the landscape, the wildlife, rocks and fossils, and more... If we had a question, Mark had the answer! We felt so blessed to have gotten Mark as a tour guide and he will hold a special place in our heart when looking back on this trip. We cannot thank Black Hills Adventure Tours and Mark enough!

Great Shuttle Service from Rapid City to Sturgis during Bikeweek. We just wanted to express our gratitude to you and your staff. You all have been great and professional on time and very reliable. 40 dollars return per person in very nice climatized buses was great. Thank you for being there for us. We shall be back to Sturgis soon and use more of your services

The very best tour guide ever, Rose, made our trip so much fun. On the first day, she took us kayaking at Pactola Lake and in the afternoon, we did a winery tour. Rose knew exactly where to go and was extremely knowledgeable about the area. On the second day, we did the hiking/safari jeep tour and it was absolutely incredible. She fit right into our girls trip and it felt like we knew her for years by the time we left. The jeep tour through Custer State Park is a must see. Thank you Black Hills Adventure Tours for a most excellent time. And thank you Rose!

My husband and I had a four- day tour of the Black Hills which was excellent from start to finish. We contacted the owner of Black Hills Adventure Tours, Carrie, and she arranged the entire tour based on what we wanted to see and do which was perfect in every way. Karen Weik was our "Guiding Angel" who "knew her way around" and was professional, knowledgeable and compassionate. We visited Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, The Beautiful Black Hills, Badlands, Leads, Deadwood, Needles Highway, Sheep Mountain , Devils Tower, Custer State Park, Sturgis and much more. Needless to say, the entire Black Hills Adventure Tour will always be one of our most memorable experiences because of the "Planning" by Carrie and the "Guiding" by Karen.

Just returned from a 6-day hiking tour in Nevada and Utah with Carrie Gerlach. It was perfect! Great hikes thru beautiful country with her expert guidance and support. Itinerary was perfect - enough time and flexibility to adjust if necessary or if the hikers asked for more! She runs a great company.

My husband and I just returned from a trip to South Dakota organized by Black Hills Adventure Tours, a company that epitomizes excellence in every aspect of their service. From the minute we were picked up at our hotel by Denny, we knew this was going to be a very special trip.
Touring Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Iron Mountain Road and the spectacular Needles Highway offers a breathtaking journey through some of South Dakota’s most iconic landmarks. Denny didn’t rush us when we stayed to gaze at the spectacular granite mountains on Needles Highway.
The second day of our tour we drove to the Little Bighorn Battlefield. I have been wanting to go to Little Big Horn for decades, it was on my bucket list. The tour turned into a spectacular day which was made possible by Denny, Carrie, the company owner, and a friend Al, who wanted to join us and is an expert on the Little Bighorn and all things South Dakota.
The trip is long but if you’re surrounded by intelligent, knowledgeable people who share their knowledge in an informative and interesting way, it makes a very long 12-hour day seem like minutes. My husband, who never wanted to make this trip, and who cancelled several previous attempts to go to the Black Hills, and who couldn’t wait to leave as soon as we arrived, was so blown away, that he was excited about the rest of the tour.
Another highlight was our visit to The Mammoth Site. Walking into the massive, climate-controlled dig shelter was a moment of sheer awe. To see the actual excavation sites with mammoths still in the ground, was breathtaking.
There were other tours, too, all were great.
I can’t say enough about Black Hills Adventure Tours. What made this trip better than most I have taken, are the people. From the initial booking process to our farewell dinner, the folks at Black Hills Adventure Tours demonstrated an exceptional level of care and thoughtfulness. My husband has a walking disability and the kindness and assistance Carrie and Denny provided was given with genuine caring.

We could not be more pleased and completely satisfied with Blackhills Adventure Tours. Our guide Denny was absolutely the best. He was knowledgeable about all the key sites and took us to additional places not included in our itinerary. I would highly recommend using Blackhills Adventure Tours.

Al was our tour guide on two separate days. He went above and beyond both days to make sure we learned and saw everything we wanted. Al did a great job of customizing our tour and making sure the hike was perfect for our level of experience. We did a private hike around Custer State Park, and visited all of the best sites in the Black Hills. We also did a full tour of Deadwood and Spearfish Canyon on our other private tour day. We did not realize we were getting part of the Thoen Stone tour, and after reading Al’s book, The Kind Whisper, I definitely recommend learning about this special piece of history. He recommended the BEST restaurants and historical places to visit. Al is so knowledgeable of the history and area, and we left with a new friend. We will be back to visit and always request Al as our tour guide, he’s the absolute best!

Is there any accommodation for Gluten free for someone on the tour for the picnic lunch?

Thank you for your question. Most of the time, our lunches are at nice restaurants in the Black Hills. Most have gluten free options. In the event we grab a picnic lunch, we would make every effort to find something that was suitable for a gluten free diet. Many of the sandwiches can be made with a lettuce wrap and fruit is typically available.

How difficult is the walk around the Tower? and is it on your own, or does the guide accompany? Are there stops at other towns?

Thank you for the inquiry! The walk around the tower is a moderate walk. Our guides are with you the entire day! We typically stop in Sturgis and Spearfish. We also stop at the Vore Buffalo Jump in Beulah,WY. Please let me know if you have additional questions!

If I book a tour package, will my family and I (four of us) be the only ones on that tour? Or are these the kind of tours where you take a certain number (e.g., up to 10) of people in unrelated groups out on each tour?
