We stayed three nights in the downtown Rapid City area and loved walking around every evening, visiting stores and restaurants, and trying to guess the statues of presidents on each corner as we approached. One evening some streets were blocked to traffic, and there were bands and various vendors. Main Street Square is an open area where families gather to play in fountains or enjoy an ice cream or coffee from the nearby shops. I highly recommend a visit to downtown Rapid City!

Loved the Presidents! Rapid City got it right. Where else would you place statues of every president on city street corners but the city at the foot of Mt. Rushmore. As my wife and I have toured the country, we've been visiting Presidential cemeteries, so this walk about town was a natural. The statues are really well done, with so much detail; from Taft's baseball to FDR's microphones. It was good to spread them around in no order, as it negated any bias as to party, importance, or tenure. We visited every president over two days following the tour map available either on line, at the visitor's center, or from one of their strolling city representatives. We broke our visit down into grids so that we moved our car twice without backtracking. Also, we had breaks for breakfast and lunch.

My wife allows me to plan trips to great natural places like the Black Hills and Badlands if she can stay in a hotel, eat good food and have some shopping experience. Rapid City was the perfect base for our trip. We stayed in the Alex Johnson Hotel. While our days were out in the Badlands or Black Hills, we always returned to Rapid city and found great restaurants and bars in walking distance.

As we walked we quickly notice this statues on all four corners as they were all Presidents. This was great was well. The big ones like Washington and Jefferson and the more modern ones like Reagan and Kennedy were in the heart of downtown. However, my name is Grover Cleveland Robinson, IV as my great grandfather was named after the first Democratic President after Reconstruction, so I had to find him and we did. It was a great feature to an already great town.

My husband and I loved walking up and down the streets downtown and especially seeing all the life size statues of the presidents. They are beautiful and have great detail. The city is clean and well laid out. It was October 2020 and still daylight. We felt extremely safe. Because of so few COVID cases, we did not wear our masks while we were outside and felt good about that.

We decided to escape the East Coast and explore this corner of South Dakota. Despite being here a week, there seems to be so much more to see and do. One of the many highlights was taking the mapped out Walking Tour, seeing Presidents 1-44 at the intersections of streets 4-9 along Main and St. Joseph streets. Historic buildings, a vibrant restaurant and retail scene and Main Street Square where we relaxed and watched children running in and out of the shooting fountains. The bandstand was being set up for evening music. Take time to check it out up close and personal on the walking tour (and earn yourself an Ice cream cone at “Silver City”!)

We popped in one night to grab dinner while we were staying in the area. I was surprised by how lively and colorful it was - public art, musician playing an outdoor concert, murals in an alleyway. I only wish I had more time to spend there and actually visit some of the local establishments.

We loved downtown Rapid City. The sculptures of presidents and notable Native Americans along with the live music playing from the park, the shops and all the beautiful art work make it a stop worth making. Loved it!

There just isn't much to Rapid City's downtown area. The president statues and few old buildings are pretty much it. Art Alley has a few interesting murals, but mostly they are either deteriorating or have been defaced.

A unique downtown with interesting things to see. We loved stopping at the presidential statues and posing next to them trying to mimic the theme of it. However, this was about all we found truly interesting about downtown with the exception of a few nice book shops and a hobby store. Other than that, it is a typical downtown with some people on the streets that you kind of try to steer clear of with young kids in tow. Not that it is a scary place by any means, its just that downtown areas like this are usually a little more rough around the edges and Rapid City is no exception to that.

There are lots of statues in Downtown Rapid City. We got there around dinner time, walked around, spun lots of Pokestops, and were quite happy that they weren’t charging for parking at the time. Unfortunately, the place that we were planning to eat was closing almost at the time that we were going to arrive, so we went somewhere else. It was a nice walk, very clean, and felt very safe.
