As soon as we arrived, we noticed how unique, soothing and pleasing the Building and the surrounding gardens are. The Museum inside is small but very nice. We started off with a movie about the history of the Badlands and the Black Hills. Then, we saw lots of nicely laid-out exhibits that took us along the journey of this State... More

This museum is a must-see when visiting SW South Dakota. The exhibits demonstrate and explain features of regional geology, natural history, Native American culture, and history from the arrival of Europeans to the present. The displays present the big picture in an easily understood format, with plenty of child-friendly interactives. For those who want more details, the museum is loaded... More

A well laid out and thought out museum. It took two hours to walk through not including the children's interactive activities or the various videos. the staff was very friendly and helpful. This is a must see attraction.

This is a great museum for those of use who really know nothing about South Dakota. They give the creation story from the Lakota perspective and weave in the science behind it. They explain the geology of the area and how the culture thrived and survived through docents, displays and hands on displays for kids. It really had something for... More

This was a very nice place. It is set up very well. You can go at your own pace and explore on you own. Fun for all ages. Displays are very nice and some are even hands on. We had fun.

If you read Michener's Hawaii, you know he explained how Hawaii was was created geographically and went to explain how the different cultures populated the islands. This is exactly what the Journey attempts to do with Rapid City, It does it very well. Definitely worth the visit. Very, Very Comprehensive with a very attentive and friendly staff.

I would imagine that locals would find this museum "ho-hum" after a while; however, for those of us who traveled a bit of a distance, this museum is a true gem. It's small, yes, but the layout of the museum, taking you from the prehistoric era up through now, makes for an interesting journey. Plus, even though it is small... More

This was a Dad and Son (age 11) trip. Dad has visited three different times over a 12 year period. Will not return. At the beginning this was a well done, interactive museum, meant to be enjoyed by one and all. Why the downgrade?? Because if one looks at the details, the exhibits are now dated, and showing their age.... More
