If you read Michener's Hawaii, you know he explained how Hawaii was was created geographically and went to explain how the different cultures populated the islands. This is exactly what the Journey attempts to do with Rapid City, It does it very well. Definitely worth the visit. Very, Very Comprehensive with a very attentive and friendly staff.

I would imagine that locals would find this museum "ho-hum" after a while; however, for those of us who traveled a bit of a distance, this museum is a true gem. It's small, yes, but the layout of the museum, taking you from the prehistoric era up through now, makes for an interesting journey. Plus, even though it is small... More

This was a Dad and Son (age 11) trip. Dad has visited three different times over a 12 year period. Will not return. At the beginning this was a well done, interactive museum, meant to be enjoyed by one and all. Why the downgrade?? Because if one looks at the details, the exhibits are now dated, and showing their age.... More

The Journey Museum is a sort of natural history museum for the local area. From geological studies to the history of its native people and near modern history. I really wasn’t expecting much, however, I was pleasantly impressed by the amount of history and care given for every display that was exhibited.

We loved this museum! It has something for everyone--geology, archaeology, Native American and pioneer exhibits, all tastefully done with a non-judgemental presentation. Plenty of hands-on stuff, plus great info for those who want to learn more. Not too big--you can do it in an hour or two, or stay longer and dig deeper. There's also an art gallery and the... More

This is an unusual museum for sure. We spent a couple of hours here and there were many interesting facts to learn about South Dakota. Didn't have children with us but it seemed to be set up to entertain the little ones while the grown ups looked at the exhibits. Well worth a stop.

I'm always a bit sad to visit well known, well respected museums and find them virtually empty of visitors. On a hot Saturday afternoon, I would have expected this museum to be packed with both visitors and local families, but I think I encountered only one other group of visitors. While a bit smaller than expected (I found it hard... More

I admittedly was more interested in the geology/paleontology side of things. While that theme only about half of the museum, i was very pleased with it, especially the geology part. The museum is a circle, so it's easy to get around and find your way through things. The shop was one of the highlights. It has all the parts of... More
