To some, we are a Native American art gallery; to others, we are a trading post reminiscent of days gone by. On the corner of 6th Street and Main in downtown Rapid City, Prairie Edge stands two stories high and stretches out for half a block as a brick, wood, and glass storefront that has been restored to its original 19th century glory. Inside, the hardwood floors and polished cabinetry bring to mind the spirit of the Old West, while the distinct smell of sweetgrass and soft sound of a Lakota flute evoke the mystique of the Plains Indian culture.

This is almost like a museum with items to purchase. Wonderful displays of native clothing and jewelry.

Thank you for taking the time to visit with us and for leaving this review :) Our bead library is a sampling of the beads that the Plains Indians were first introduced to 300 years ago. They are the from the skilled glass bead masters of Italy. Books are the gift that keeps on giving and we are lucky to... More

I had a necklace that I have worn for over 20 years that broke and lost some of the beads. I was very picky on what I wanted and the staff was very helpful and patient. I found what I was looking for and would recommend anyone to go there with any bead or necklace needs.

This is one of the gems of RC's downtown. It contains art, clothing, jewelry, trinkets and much more. It even has a beads library. It's the one store you can't miss.

Great place to shop or browse and get a bit of history. The building itself is unique, original floors and handrails, part of the retail store was the bar area and anyone working there seemed eager to give you the history. Native American art is displayed in such a beautiful setting. The paper sculptures are so detailed, you really have... More

Thank you for your kind words. It was a lot of work to restore the building back to it's original look (from 1886) as there was a lot of "modernization" implemented over the decades. The construction crew and architects worked hard to make the project a success. The art and the building make a great statement about the talented folks... More

Fantastic store. So many wonderful items to see. Jewelry, art, furniture, clothing & household decorative pieces. Lots of Native American pieces & regalia. Love this store. Was told by an employee I could take photos of anything in the store if I wished.

We popped in during a stroll in the downtown and were pleasantly surprised. You'll find a great variety of art and items for purchase. Wish we would have more time to explore!

We discovered Prairie Edge after having dinner at the Firehouse Brewing Company (next door) one evening during our stay in Rapid City. We ended up going back 2 more times for gifts and souvenirs - it was our last stop on our way out of town to pick up last minute gifts. They have a diverse collection of gifts, many... More

Part gallery, part upscale gift shop, part Native American art supply store. There is nothing like this place elsewhere on the prairie. Love to stop here whenever I'm in Rapid, and it never gets old. You could spend hours admiring the art and immersing yourself in Native American culture. Skip the tourist traps and go here instead.
