To some, we are a Native American art gallery; to others, we are a trading post reminiscent of days gone by. On the corner of 6th Street and Main in downtown Rapid City, Prairie Edge stands two stories high and stretches out for half a block as a brick, wood, and glass storefront that has been restored to its original 19th century glory. Inside, the hardwood floors and polished cabinetry bring to mind the spirit of the Old West, while the distinct smell of sweetgrass and soft sound of a Lakota flute evoke the mystique of the Plains Indian culture.

It will take you at least an hour plus to walk through Prairie Edge and enjoy their wares. You can buy most anything, from a hand-carved whistle for a child to high-end Lakota beaded artwork. It is a lot of fun to browse and find unique gifts and souvenirs. Not a good place to take young children. There is a... More

This store, downtown Rapid City, is maybe the very best store that downtown Rapid City has to offer. VERY VERY attractive and unique, interesting items. This is the first place I shop when I need a GREAT gift for someone. Always something very unique and the prices are incredibly reasonable. Additionally they sell the area's best quality buffalo meat (IMHO)... More

The idea behind Prairie Edge is fantastic and I always love going through it to learn about Native American art and culture. I live in Rapid City and make it a point to visit once a year.

Lots of Native American and Western items for sale, from mid-range prices to expensive. Spent over an hour browsing. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable.

We stopped there today so could show my son this store that I lived to go many years ago. The items that they have are so beautiful I wish I could get everything I love there. The art and clothing are so nice. I think everyone should stop and look around. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Prairie Edge Gallery consists of two distinctive spaces: Native Art space and Traditional Gallery/Souvenir Shop. While the Native section features quite a few local Native artists and provides a great variety of Native, locally made items in a wide range of price points, the "other side," which is the traditional souvenir shop/gallery type of space, carries items purchased at major... Sure, this place is a high end art and artisan store with a prairie and Native American theme, and you COULD dump $10K here pretty quickly. But, it's got beautiful displays, and you could spend $5, too, or even nothing at all. It really is a museum and gallery, and the staff are totally NOT pressure people. They are eager... More
