To some, we are a Native American art gallery; to others, we are a trading post reminiscent of days gone by. On the corner of 6th Street and Main in downtown Rapid City, Prairie Edge stands two stories high and stretches out for half a block as a brick, wood, and glass storefront that has been restored to its original 19th century glory. Inside, the hardwood floors and polished cabinetry bring to mind the spirit of the Old West, while the distinct smell of sweetgrass and soft sound of a Lakota flute evoke the mystique of the Plains Indian culture.

Nice quality but expensive

The Trading Co. had some very nice merchandise, but it was a little too expensive for us to purchase any items.

This is a very big store with all things Indian. Beautiful merchandise, original Indian handmade and other merchandise as well. Best of it's kind in the area.

I ordered two lamps that they packaged and shipped for me. I received them within a few days of arriving home. Well packaged and intact.

If you love Indian art and crafts, don't miss this. We spent over an hour admiring the fabulous creations, and purchased a unique medicine bag by a talented Lakota artist, as well as a lovely pair of silver earrings. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful.

If not buying, it's a very interesting place to browse for future purchases! Many beautiful handmade merchandise by local artisans that reflect Native American culture. Handmade wooden furniture in the middle section. Top floor is a beautiful art gallery with paintings, sculptures and other items that would compliment any home décor.

We stopped in here, while exploring downtown Rapid. What a great place! Art gallery and very unique American Indian arts for sale.

Large selection of locally-created Native art, quilts, jewelry, sage, and to my delight, a whole floor of Native American books, music, DVDs, and language tapes for learning Lakota and Native languages. I was impressed by the friendly, knowledgeable staff.

OK, I'm a grammar grouch, and I usually think "very unique" is redundant, but it's appropriate for Prairie Edge. "Excellent" isn't a high enough rating; I'd give it a perfect ten. It's obvious that the staff work hard to select and present for sale some of the finest items that represent the art and culture of the region. Whether it's... More

This place is amazing, is a huge store but I would call it almost a museum. The Native American art is incredible and good quality but the prices are ridiculously high.

Thank you for taking the time to visit us. Our building was built in 1886 and we worked with the State Historical Society to put the building back to it's original look. It was a lot of work for the construction crew as there was a lot of false fronting, carpet glue, paint, etc... but they did a fantastic job!... More
