Went off of Tripadvisor reviews, and was kind of dissapointed. Maybe we just didn't get a good "teacher," but we were hoping for more. She seemed to want to do most of the work for us instead of letting us learn. Place could be updated for sure, and while we did get to learn to pan for gold more or... More

Visited this place because of the reviews on tripadvisor but as a few mentioned, don't let the appearance of this place fool or scare you away. Super friendly staff, they taught our children (ages 9 & 11) so much about panning for gold, this is not your typical touristy attraction, they will definitely learn how to do it correctly! They... This is quite an unassuming little spot, but WOW! The kids (9 and 13) wanted to learn how to pan for gold while in the Black Hills and we picked Wades based on tripadvisor reviews. We were not disappointed. We paid for the kids and they had very thorough panning lessons with two other children and a very friendly and... More

Thanks for choosing to learn to pan for gold at Wade's! We're so glad your family enjoyed the lesson & experience. We do love to pan in the creek, when we're not in the middle of a drought! We hope you had a great time in the Hills - thanks for your review! All our best! More

This family-run "museum" is a chance to see some wonderful equipment from the late 19th and early 20th centuries and then to try your hand at panning for gold. Clearly a labor of love, Mr. Wade personally gives the tour of gold milling equipment that his family has collected over the last four decades. He even tuns the steam-powered rock... More

We were in SD for the 4th and my husband and tween neice both wanted ro try panning. This was not the closest but had far better reviews so we gave it a try. As others said, do not be quick to judge when you pull up. They do tours twice a day but we did not make it for... More

We have 2 under 8 and they loved it! Our guide, I have forgotten his name, tailored our visit to their age but would give us more info while the kiddos worked their pans. They both got gold and some great minerals to take home too. We are making a pendant out of one rose quartz that is just awesome.... More

I admit when driving up I was a bit nervous and skeptical. The staff could not have been more friendly, helpful, and caring!!! We had younger children and they were so patient and really wanted to help.them find gold flakes in their pans! Very realistic too, we dug our own dirt, placed it in the pan and took it to... More

We stopped here with our 4 boys ages 2-13 and had a blast. We only did the panning lesson which is $11/ea, but ended up buying an extra bucket of dirt to pan. The people running it are so nice and helpful. We will be back I'm sure

We found this place June 29 didn't look like much when we pulled in but so glad we stayed!!! Family ran 3 generations and it's not your money making commercialized touristy spot. We had Bill who was amazing and so informative and showed us all how to pan gave us some excellent history about the area and South Dakota and... More
