All four instructors were great with our group of scouts, which is not easy with a large group of 11-15 year old boys. The instructors were engaging, proficient, and patient. Everyone in the group had a great time and were able to climb higher than they ever expected to do before starting the program.

We had a group of almost 30. Most of them were boy scouts with ages going from 12 to almost 18. Sylvan Rocks did a great job with our group. They provided excellent instruction and training and were very encouraging of everyone. I would heartily recommend them and would use them in the future.

We booked the Devils Tower 2 day summit for July 18 and 19; three of us two teens and dad. Our guide was Taylor for both days. Taylor was safe, patient, encouraging and he explained everything and answered any questions we had. We did have some previous climbing experience and I think that made our trip better. The first day... More

Cheyenne was our guide for this trip. He was AWESOME!!! Very patient, communicates well, very knowledeable, provides loads of encouragement. 2 day prep very helpful to get you up to speed if you've only done rock wall/ indoor climbing. Also final "barometer" climb on day 2 is a great tool to assess your readiness for the Devils Tower climb. It... More

My wife and I have climbed in indoor gyms for a while now, but this was our first climbing trip outside. We highly recommend Sylvan Rocks. Chris was a fantastic guide, the location was beautiful, and the climbing was challenging and fun. Outfitting went quickly and we were quickly out climbing. We were able to push ourselves as climbers despite... More

Parents - if you have kids (10 and up) and want to do something in the Black Hills that will create a "memory of the lifetime" and literally change their outlook on life - you need to come see Daryl and his team at the climbing school. We are your typical suburban family that has gone and done many things... More

Those are powerful words. I already passed them along to the guides...esp. Jeff. Sometimes its good to be reminded that our job goes beyond just a 6 hour day. More

What a great experience my wife and I had in their morning climbing session. This may be their least expensive option, but it was worth much more. The climbs ranged from relatively easy to quite strenuous and difficult. The guides were extremely helpful and ensured everyone had a great time climbing. I highly recommend to anyone with or without any... More

We too had weather on or planned day of climbing. We were able to schedule the following day when weather was predicted to be much nicer. We did the 6 hour course with my two kids 13 and 15. Chris was an excellent guide and instructor. We had a great day climbing and felt safe the entire time. Kids are... More

My climb was planned for Friday. Mother nature had other plans and decided to rain that day. I was leaving the next day to fly back home. My guide, Cheyenne was so accommodating and agreed to meet me the next morning earlier and at a closer location. YAY!! The weather was beautiful. My guides were Cheyenne and Shankar and they... Went with spouse & one kid in her 20's with some indoors climbing experience. Us "seniors", had not done this ever before, although we hike regularly & are in good health... So we were a group of different ages & skill. The guide was clear & concise with his instructions & readily assisted us in climbing to our level of... More

That is the cool thing about rock climbing. All of us can enjoy "success" at our own level. You might not start out on the cover of Climbing Magazine, but you might start out having fun!! Many folks come out claiming to be scared of heights, but wanting to push through some barrier. Reasonable pace, encouragement and good explanations often... More
