We went to see the rock formations and to take one of the shorter hikes. It’s a lovely park and while it provided some pretty views, it is small and didn’t have as many scenic views as I expected. This would be a lovely, peaceful...More

Take time to check out this small park. The beautiful rock formations are a surprise in the middle of the prairie, and the easy hiking trails take you right down to the river. Great place to picnic, camp, or just relax and enjoy nature!

Visited the park on our way back home. We saw the beautiful pics online and thought it would be a great place to stop and take a quick look. What we found was a great place for teenage boys to climb and explore. We could...More

WE camped with an 18ft. trailer. We only had electric, but the bath house and/or toilets were not very far to walk. The sites were all wooded and we had a stream by ours that was below our site enough that we were not threatened...More

Palisades State Park (6 Replies)
Okay, it appears that no one logs on to this site from Fort Lee...but I am going to take my chances. I am wondering if it is possible to access the hiking trails along the Hudson River in Palisades State Park VIA FOOT. Is there any pedestrian access to the park that would allow one to walk on the cycle/walk path??? I have googled my heart out and cannot seem to find the answer. I even called the Parks and Rec commission of Fort Lee; they could not provide an answer either. I am considering...More

Excuse me if this is not the correct manner in which to respond to BROADWAYNYC. But here's the deal. I am thinking of taking an apartment in a complex called Linwood Park ( Edwin Ave, Park Place in Fort Lee) I've been told that Palisades State Park is very close by and some folks have told me that I could simply walk to it and others have said that "No", I would need to take my car and park it at Ross Dock or someother place in order to access the hiking trails. ( They say that this is approx...More

Has anyone ever taken a more scenic rout from Chicago to Galena--travelign west, then along the Mississippi tthrough the Palisades State Park? Was it worth it?

Jtrip I have been to Galena several times and the only route I have taken is route 20 West to Galena. About 45 min to an hour past Rockford, the drive on the 20 is very scenic. I would have to say one of the best in the state. It has beautiful rolling hills. Don't forget to stop at the wooden observation tower for a great view just outside of Galena. Enjoy your trip.

Breaking up the drive from Chicago to the Black Hills (4 Replies)
Hello. We'll be driving to the Black Hills in June. I'm thinking of breaking up the trip by staying in a cabin in Palisades State Park on the way there, and a cabin in Lewis & Clark State Park (Yankton) on the way back. We'll be traveling with a 3 and 6 yr old and are looking for peace/quiet and affordability. We will likely arrive both places early evening & depart in the morning so we may not get to see much of the parks, but I think I'd prefer this environment to a hotel. Does this...More

I was glad MomMobile5 told me about Palisades State Park. We visited there in June and did a few little hikes. It is a nice park with some interesting scenery. We have only driven through the park in Yankton, and we liked it. Our son went to school in nearby Vermillion, and we enjoyed exploring the general area along the Missouri River when we went to visit him. It seems like a decent plan to me:)
