We were there on a Thursday afternoon the week after the 4th of July It was crowded. We got there around noon and the earliest slot was 3:15 and not for our first choice of set. Which was totally fine it was busy I get it. They didn't explain prices or the process once we took the slot. Didn't find out the price until after the photoshoot and we didn't get to walk out with our prints cause we weren't going to be in the area again after that (again it's fine they got mailed but it would have been nice to know that at the beginning).

My criticism was simply that it felt disorganized. Most of the staff we encountered seemed like seasonal (?) employees and, weren't great communicators. The place is very chaotic with props everywhere and people looking around... it wasn't clear on where we should go and when. There were many people guiding us - but all wearing regular clothes so hard to tell who worked there and what they did. The ladies that helped with costumes didn't seem very happy and certainly weren't contributing to any positive experience for us. No smiling... no upbeat small talk or commentary. They didn't let us look through clothes or even give us options they just handed us clothes and said here put them on.

The photographer took only a handful of photos which I get b/c it would take too long to pick one out if they took many! But - the photos were just ok. The costumes were certainly well used and putting a hat on that 100s of people have tried on. The person who took the photo was nice and seemed like he knew what he was doing but there was no nuanced suggestions on posing, etc. For someone that supposedly does this for a living or even just part time you'd think there would be some guidance.
Also if you are a photographer yourself dont say it, I feel like this may have thrown our photographer off, he kept asking if there were any poses we'd like or suggestions for props (I DONT KNOW DUDE, I dont work here I dont know what props you have, we couldn't look at them). I came here to have fun and not have to think of things to do, I wanted some guidance.

I got my prints back today, earlier than expected (points to them) and they are good quality except they weren't cut properly. Cut a little crooked and I had to trim off some white edges. We had chosen 2 pictures that we were okay with but not in love. One of which was a horizontal but they cropped it into a vertical with no warning or explanation why. It looks fine vertical but NOT what we wanted! Also I cant make out what our session ID number is on the back if we ever want more prints.

Doing this in Deadwood feels pretty appropriate so it is kind of a bummer that the experience wasn't great. Also disappointed because my brother and his wife did this and had a great experience (granted they went in January and were the only customers).

Our family (5 total) always enjoys having historical photos taken whenever we get a chance, so we've had plenty of experience with photo shops all over the place.
With that said, this place ranks at the top of our recommendation list.
All of the staff were friendly, helped us choose outfits, and then got us to our setting. The photographer (a young man...didn't get his name..) was exceptional. He set up the photos so there were little clues in the picture, and each of us looked like we had a part in a story.
We were REALLY happy with this.
The main picture is framed and in our dining room. It is one of those pictures that people look at and try to figure out the story behind it. We would definitely do this again if we get to that area again!

My boyfriend and I had a photo shoot and Woody's and we love our photos! What a fun experience being styled and posed. I didn't think I could pull off the straight face look but the photos are great! The staff was patient with me finding a dress I was comfortable in. My boyfriend enjoyed the shoot as well. As the staff member said "Guys are just props for ladies photos" Lol! I ordered several 5x7 and 8x10 prints.

This was such a fun experience! We were in Deadwood for our yearly girl's weekend and decided to give this a try. Our photograph Aaron was so much fun and easy to interact with. He listened to our ideas too. Very clean, photos printed off within a couple of hours. Would highly recommend!

Located on the main street going through Deadwood. Very small sign marking the front of the shop, we drove by three times before we spotted it. It might not be as difficult to find if you were just walking by. The shop was small, very cramped, and cluttered with props. It was a weekday in August, and there was over an hour wait. So I would suggest making an appointment. You start by picking your scene, then someone will help you with adjustable clothing and props that go with the scene you chose. The clothes were showing wear and could use replacement of a few items. They take shots with several different poses. Next, you decide which photos you want to buy. You will need to wait about an hour to get your photos printed. An 11x14 photo is included with your photo shoot, but all other photos and frames are an additional charge. I was a little unhappy that they wouldn't honor the coupon that I found online and had pulled up on my phone...they said it had to be printed. If we decide to get old-time photos again, we'll probably check out the shop in Keystone instead.

Never did an Old Timey Photo before, so when we passed by, we thought why not! Learned it is the biggest Old Time Photo Studio in the country and the staff was very helpful when we were getting dressed and took the photo.

The staff is trained to tell you how to pose, but don't be afraid to ask to try a pose you want!

We spent a happy hour in Woody's photo shop dressing up as outlaws and having our photo taken. What a great way to keep a memory of a wonderful weekend in Deadwood SD.

Can thoroughly recommend this experience!

This was the one tourist thing I wanted to do on our family vacation this year and am so glad we did. It was so fun dressing up - even my husband got into it. You get to be someone you usually aren't! I did feel a little rushed but not too bad. We opted to have the photo mailed to us and when it arrived bent and damaged they sent a replacement no questions asked! Be prepared for sticker shock though!

We went in and asked about prices, we're a but on the spend side, but when it was all said and done it was totally worth it! They let you pick the background you want (and they have like 7 or 8), and then the type of "character" you want. The costume girl was friendly and very helpful, and the photographer was fantastic! She would tell us how to pose and would go along with anything that you wanted to do which actually got us our best picture! You can buy frames there and they have some cool ones but they are kinda spendy. All in all, it was a really cool experience and I would definitely do it again!

Found this place by accident online, and scheduled it as part of our vacation for our family to memorialize our trip to a cowboy city by playing dress-up like cowboys. Used to do photos in a studio with full blown wardrobe for others for a living, so I could appreciate the attention to detail. Professional settings and equipment. They did an excellent job in quickly dressing all of us in attire that went perfectly with our personalities and then doing the photo shoot. It didn't take long at all, and I came away impressed. I'm glad we did it. It was a fraction of what somebody would have had to pay in my studio, so you should totally go for it.
