Hiking in the Hills around Deadwood is usually really nice quiet and serene experience . I am most familiar around Lead and Deadwood and you really will almost be alone except during some kind of race and the hills are full of Blackhills National Forest...More

Road from Custer to Hill City and back. Road my mtn bike and was glad to have the wider tires - you could see your tire imprints. It had rained heavily 2 days before and there was spots of loose sand & limestone, plus the...More

This is a 109 mile trail from Edgewood to Deadwood. Paved only for short distances, the balance is a smooth gravel surface. Wonderful to either walk, jog, or bike it, through a variety towns. Lovely scenery.

I rode on this trail for the first time today, 10 miles from Rochford to DuMont and back. It is harder pedaling than biking on pavement, especially with a headwind, but the exercise, beautiful scenery, and wildlife (baby turkeys today) are more than worth it....More

The surface is hard pack so don't ride after a rain. But it is well compacted and no problem on a road bike. A Rail to Trail conversion, it goes through some remote canyons (no roads in those canyons) and follows some great streams. Over...More

I've done parts of three sections, now. The trail doesn't disappoint! It's well marked, has nice trailheads, good surface (limestone gravel), and great scenery. I did Pringle, Mystic, and Deadwood. Mystic has tunnels but is all uphill to get to them!

We rode two parts of this trail on our way to Seattle from New Jersey. This trail has elevation climbs.....not hills just gradual climbs. This trail has wind. From Hill City to Custer, it required pedaling...on the way back, we could have coasted! The same...More

Rode from Dumont to Hill City (approx 30 miles). Trail is in great condition. Almost as good as blacktop. Lots of bridges and several tunnels. Multiple signs noting area facts or historical markers. Very little traffic when we were there. The trail was very safe....More
