Are you disillusioned with shelling out cash for mediocre entertainment? Join the smart crowd...refuse to pay anymore! This is a great and interesting little place in Spartanburg to go for a stroll and enjoy the history...for free. Tip...tour the ancient magnolia cemetery right next door...yo will enjoy reading the ancient stones. 5 stars!

This is a very nice small museum for RR buffs. You are given a guided tour by a very enthusiastic senior citizen who is a RR "junkie". The history of the RR in Spartanburg was explained in terms that will catch your interest in the unique history of this town. A donation is requested and worth it and there is plenty of free parking. The grounds are maintained by the city and are spotless and kept neat and tidy. A must see when in Spartanburg.

When we pulled into the parking lot we heard a train and ran to the back of the lot to watch it go by below us from the observation deck. There is also an old train trellis that is completely overgrown with kudzu vines which is really neat . When we went inside the historic Southern Railway Spartanburg Union Depot there was a train going by on that track so we watched it too (we love trains). The museum is very well done and they have really squeezed in (without making it jumbled) a lot of history in the small space. The man working in there was very knowledgeable of Spartanburg's history and told some really interesting stories.

A must ...take an hour out of your day and spend it here! Great history! My toddler got to ring a bell and enjoyed watching the train display in the caboose. Staff has excellent knowledge.

Spotted this inside the Amtrak station and went in. Great pictures of steam trains working this area and the importance they played in commerce at the time. It's small and they asked for donations -no admission fee. Enjoyed it.
