Worth spending a morning or afternoon here if you are in the neighborhood, even if you have to drive further afield. Passiflorahoeve has a number of butterfly gardens with spectacular butterflies enjoying settings close to their own habitat. They allow you to visit the caterpillar hatchery where one can see eggs, pupae, caterpillars and the live hatching of butterflies. From rare tropical species to native butterflies and endangered ones. The gardens are also beautiful, Passiflora garden, aristolochia collection and wonderful wild flower garden. Amazing for photography. Lunch option and ice cream available.

This attraction is located in a rural area near Ede and you will definitely need navigation to find it.
Basically it consists of several butterfly gardens as well as some gardens with exotical plants and wild flowers.
The butterfly gardens are seperated in areas with exotic and european butterflies which is nice since I do not know any other butterlfy gardens specializing in european species. The gardens are very well designed and have a lot of butterflies, more so than for instance the hortus in Utrecht (which we visited a few weeks earlier). It is also clear that they breed their own butterflies and the process is shown in an instructive manner.
Recently they added a 'butterlfy friendly garden' which is just a garden with lots of beautiful wild flowers, with lots of butterflies but also other insects like bees. I have to say that it is a beautiful sight.
It is possible to buy some drinks and snacks and there is a large free car park.
So it is a really nice place and we liked visiting it but there is one drawback....and that is the reason I am only giving them 3 balls....the price is rather steep....it is 6,50 euro pp (for adults) and I just think this is too much...after all one hour is enough to see everything.

If you like to see unusual butterflies, then this is the right destination for you. Here you can observe or take pictures of butterflies in different greenhouses. There is also a small butterfly museum with interesting exhibits. On the grounds you will find a beautiful garden where the impressive passion flowers stand out.
Unfortunately, the website of the 'Passiflorahoeve' is only in Dutch, which is not surprising, as one gets the impression that foreign visitors hardly come here. Therefore, one does not bother to offer an English version.
