- Celeste47 contributionsMyrtle BeachWe’ve visited Myrtle Beach about 5 years ago. It was a really beautiful time , especially during Christmas. We’d love to go back , even again during the Christmas season. It was exciting, cozy, and and included yoga, art , and cooking classes. Wonderful winter time place to be …. Not just spring or summer!Visited December 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten December 14, 2022

- Monicalee S1 contributionHighly recommend dunes village resort in North Myrtle Beach.Wonderful condo at dunes village resort 4th floor looking right at the ocean. Our server at the Captain's Cafe in the palmetto towers was Traivena. She was so sweet and attentive to everything that we asked her for. Went out of her way to accommodate us with all requests for extra plates and condiments things like that it was such a pleasure to meet her. The food at the cafe was reasonably priced and extra large portions me and Mom actually ended up splitting a meal. Cameron Grandstaff went above and beyond expectations coming to the room twice to help us figure out how to use the remote for the TV. I would highly recommend the dunes village resort and will definitely be going back and looking forward to it.Hi Monicalee S - we are so glad that you had a lovely time at Dunes Village! - Ted McKim18 contributionsMyrtle Beach in MarchWe visited in early March, when the local marathon was held. It was definitely off-season, which made it a very pleasant experience- uncrowded, pleasant temps and every franchise on the plant is represented here, with easy access to most of them; as well as lots of local merchants. The beach is nice, well kept and clean, but not as wide as some, and there is a mix of sand and shell. I would not venture here in the summer season, as it must be nearly impossible to navigate, park and fight the crowds. It is also difficult to reach via the main Highway (501), which is overcrowded and under construction.Visited March 2023Written March 5, 2023
- waverlys19 contributionsGreat times were had in Myrtle BeachHad a family get together in October (first time after the pandemic) and it was a wonderful time. We stayed in a lovely Airbnb that was in an ideal location close to shopping, restaurants, golf courses and some nice walking trails. Visited the Boardwalk, (some nice bars, restaurants and a nice area on the beach to sit and enjoy the day). Also vistied the Aquarium, Ripleys, and did some shopping in the local malls. We onjoyed them all. Definitely looking forward to another visit soon.Visited October 2022Written March 13, 2023
- Julie F4 contributionsProbably won’t be back… maybe somewhere a little further south next time.Stay away from the main boardwalk along the beach. Smells like weed everywhere you go and everyone is drunk at night. If we ever came again we’d probably pick a location a little further south of actual Myrtle Beach because it really is a tourist trap. We did the typical tourist stuff but after 3-4 days you’ll run out of things to do. The weather was really nice for an early April stay.Hi, R4561GAjulief, thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience in Myrtle Beach! Nice campground but there was a lot of traffic since we were on the main rd. Kids we disappointed that they did not get to swim in the outdoor pool because it was cold. They did get to swim in the heated pool which was lukewarm. Elliott Realty Beach Rentals Myrle Beacht- BEWARE
November 11, 2019 my husband and I made a reservation to take our family of 10 (children and grandchildren) to Myrtle Beach. Having used Elliott Realty Beach Rentals many times in the past we called them, made a reservation for May 30, 2020 – June 6, 2020 at the Cherry Grove Villas, as we had stayed there in the past, and were very happy with our stay.
With the Corvid 19 Virus pandemic affecting the world, March 30, 2020, I called Elliott Realty to cancel our reservation as many states were being told to ‘shelter at home’ and businesses closed. The person I spoke with actually said I could not get my large $$ deposit back unless they could rent the unit again and at that time they were not renting anything, so I should wait to cancel until April 30, and then the policy might have changed. I did not cancel my reservation at that time. I called April 20, 2020 and spoke to Mary Beth, whom said there would still be no refunding of the deposit as the owner of the condominium got the money when I made the reservation in November. Again, if Elliott could lease the condo we could get the deposit back. I explained I knew all activities in Myrtle Beach were moved to September, all businesses could only host 5 people, so our group could do nothing and in Tennessee we were still sheltered at home, as was Myrtle Beach. Nothing mattered.
I do understand policies but due to these circumstances being out of the consumer’s hands, policies should be amended. We are very disappointed, as we have used Elliott Realty for many years. I will not be using them again since they are definitely not customer oriented, as seen by these circumstances.
My husband and I will be sharing this information with many others in hopes to inform our community friends and family so they too do not lose this kind of money in the future.

The city of Myrtle Beach's public parking fees at beach access points are $2 hour, $10 day, which is expensive. The parking is monitored closely. Also, many of the accesses are beaches that have long lines of expensive and half empty chair and umbrella rentals at the tidemark. While these rentals help fund lifeguards, they can also distract lifeguards from their duties, who must be on the lookout for chair squatters. These rentals are managed by the city. Visitors are not permitted to set up their own chairs, blankets and umbrellas between this line and the ocean. So, the view of the ocean is blocked. The lines are tighter and longer during summer weekends, especially Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. Not all paid access has a shower for rinsing off sand or even ikky port o' Johns facilities. So, there is not much beach value for $2 an hour. And, hotel guests do not like the rental lines either. A few beaches have small sewage facility or pipes which smell or are near swashes, stream and gutter outlets into the ocean, which can create high levels of bacteria in the ocean, especially after a rain. And, if a beach doesn't have a public bathroom, where do those beachgoers urinate?

Inhospitable is more like it. DON'T waste your time and money. The boardwalk itself and retail businesses are dilapidated, old, overpriced, and tacky. I could see the disdain in the locals faces as we walked into their bars and venues. Service in general was terrible and rude. We were denied service in restaurant because they didn't want to serve us one hour before they closed even though they knew we were hungry and tired from long trip. The food in all but one restaurant was not good. Its too bad because beaches were pretty and well kept.

Our family loves the ocean! Playing in the waves and enjoying nature is great. This time we were surrounded by fishermen though! Many families were set up on the beach, when a group of fishermen walked over, set up smack in the middle and started casting lines into the water!
From a previous trip, we knew they weren’t supposed to be there, but the lifeguard seemed uninterested in enforcing the distancing rules from swimmers (who were there first, mind you!). She did take notice when they caught a shark. Thanks for drawing them in near all of us guys!
This continued for several days. Same fishermen. We “found” cut weights and hooks on lines with our feet twice. We tried moving down the beach, but there were quite a number of groups fishing, and it was hard to escape their “zones”. We finally got the ear of a lifeguard who confirmed our understanding of the rules surrounding fishing, but she said there was nothing she could do about it. I’ve been told by patrols to remove an umbrella/tent style beach shade, but throwing hooks and bait in near swimmers is a non-issue?

We visited during June 21-24, 2020. During this time, there were no crowds are big party groups. We were able to social distance and hardly no one was on the beach. Only two planes flew by with advertisements and no one was paddle boarding or parasailing.

I think if you go to Myrtle between Memorial Day and Labor Day, it is not very appealing. I will tell you the reason why. There are way too many out of control teenagers not supervised by their parents hanging out at resorts and commercial establishments. There are just too many tourists all in one area, which is the grand strand. There is too much emphasis on commercialism and less focus on what's really important, which is the beach itself. However, you could never call Myrtle Beach boring. I believe there's thousands of things to do. Most of them require money. I mean, even the average putt putt place is charging around $13 to $16 for 18 holes. The average golf course with a cart is around $100 for 18 holes. The average show is around $55 a ticket like the Alabama Theater or Legends or my favorite the Carolina Opry. I mean, you can even take gambling ship out of Little River. There is also an old-fashioned Mark Twain river boat out of barefoot. You can do a dinner cruise down the famous Waccamaw River. The average price of crab legs all you can eat buffet also $50. Resorts are nice, but they average around $300 a night during the prime tourist season, which is Memorial Day through Labor Day. So bring your money to Myrtle Beach. You are definitely going to need it! The average tourist with a family of two kids spends at least 2000 for the week on a place to stay at, which is usually beachfront. And at least 1,000 or more dollars on food and entertainment as well as souvenirs.

The trip started off great until I went to the beach. The lifeguards place chairs and umbrellas on the beach for rent. You can not place your umbrella in front of theirs or they will make you move. After sitting in my spot for 2 hours, I had to move everything because some for rent vendor set up behind me. You are forced to sit in the sun or behind them like a second class citizen who just paid over a $1000 for accommodations. They will tell you that you can sit at the end of the umbrella line but it’s a quarter mile away. I gave MB a chance after many years and won’t return.

This was our first time to this beach. We stayed at South Bay Inn and Suites. It was right on the beach. The beach area was clean and well kept. It was a lovely week. My only suggestion is that maybe the hotel could offer chair and umbrella rentals. I asked and was told that you could rent two chairs and umbrella from the town of Myrtle Beach. It was very easy and right on the beach. Extremely convenient however the price was steep it was 40$ a day so for 5 days it really was expensive so maybe the hotel could offer some other opportunities that are less expensive. Other then that it was really nice.

Me and my husband were staying at Wadmalaw island bolt farm treehouse resort for our 12th wedding anniversary. We came to the Myrtle beach area on one of our days there to do the Myrtle beach safari We had some time to kill between the 3 hour safari tour and the photos done in the evening with the animals. So we decided to pay the famous beach a visit. The water was warm, the beach itself was clean and not at all crowded in September. The water though was really dark and grey you can not see in it well. A bit scary for Michiganders who do not have salt water creatures lol. Not knowing whats swimming around you I’m not sure i like. But we walked the town for a bit and there is a LOT Of shops in the area. I don’t know if its typical but it felt like going to Mexico or any Caribbean get away where the locals try super hard to get you to come in and buy something. To the point its rather annoying. Maybe its due to a Economy shut down for covid? But i don’t believe they were shut down like michigan was. So maybe thats the normal here. Then we were approached by a lot of homeless people and people very strung out on drugs. So parents do keep your children or teens close. I would not let young teens go here alone thats for sure even though i know its popular with that younger crowd. It had a very LA or Vegas style feel in the town surrounding it. Which I’m sure is worse at night. The beach is nice, really nice sandy beach, i would just caution people of their surroundings.

This is a place for lower middle class Ohio and Kentuckians. They’re rude, they’re crude. They smoke on the beach. The black bikers are obnoxious and discourteous drivers.
We go to Hilton Head now, and everyone talks to us. No one talked to us in MB. In Myrtle Beach, they assume two guys on the beach together are gay, which we are. One family that were repeat vacationers at the same time we were, the buffed father with the not so attractive wife and punk kids talked to us unsolicited when his family wasn’t around then disowned us later when they came back. His kids made fun of us too. They made friends with the a family from Kentucky on one of the trips that kept chasing the seagulls away.
The shopkeepers and restaurant owners are also disengaged more than you would usually expect. Got harassed by one of the restaurant owners with calls in the middle of the night for leaving a bad review. Was responded to inappropriately online by one of the store managers at the outlet mall over a review left over bad service.
For just a little bit more, you can go to Hilton head. The residents and fellow vacationers are more polished and in tune to the tourist. Education makes a difference; they are more accepting and better mannered. It is also more pedestrian and biker friendly. It’s a beautiful place.

Recommendation for beach gear alternative to the pricey chair service on the beach? Chair service seems to be very expensive and my family likes to be at the beach way past 5PM.

Would suggest Walmart. Many times we resold it to someone coming in the resort. however it is less expensive than renting at times

My family and I are considering visiting in December during holidays. We’re flying in or driving. We’re 16 hrs away, so it’ll be a pretty good drive. If we fly, would people recommend renting a car or is public transportation or Uber good enough? We’ll have two children with us (6 and 7 yo). Thanks in advance!

I would recommend a rental car. There are so many places you can go. At Market Place there is a beautiful playground called Savannah’s. We could not go in the summer because it was too hot. There is also a Children’s area inside a house at Market Place. I can’t think of the name. At Broadway at the beach there is Ripley’s Aquarium. At Barefoot Landing there are kids things to do as well. There are lots of mini golf courses to play at. In the long run a rental car would be your best option.

Hi there! My husband and I are looking at taking our toddler on a babymoon this summer. Does anyone have any recommendations on a reasonably priced, safe place to stay in Myrtle Beach? Does any place offer a package with meals included? We are looking to travel and not break the bank. Maybe someone has another vacation recommendation for safe, clean, fun beach places in the States. Any insight into traveling there would be wonderful! Thank you in advance! Hope it's not too generic of a question 🙂

You can swim in it but it is chilly. There were a lot of kids swimming and playing the water. I believe the water temps were around 60 degrees in April.

Where in North or South Myrtle Can you find a dive Motel that's actually kind of nice & definitely doesn't have bed bugs or too many other bugs and they don't allow pets. I used to stay at the Holiday Shores, but they are renovating it was my go-to establishment is not doing too well. Something a lot better than the Diplomat or the the famous sea Rider Motel.

oh boy i dont know how to answer this question! we DID stay at the holiday shores motel last late august and it was perfect for us. altho we didnt bring a pet with us i, personally am not opposed to folks that do bring trained pets. the room we had was clean, king bed, plenty of room in the living room area and just the 2 of us. it was very clean, outdated some, yes, but clean, no bugs, fridge, micro and stove. couldnt ask for anything more for the price. not sure what you mean by a dive motel? you certainly dont mean a DUMP? do You. This probably doesnt help but my opinion on our visit here.
