About Waccamaw River Tours
We do Nature & Wildlife Boat Tours on the rivers and creeks of the Waccamaw River and Intrcoastal Waterway. It is a beautiful, moss draped river system along the untouched National Wildlife Refuge. We hope to see alligator, osprey, turtles, heron, egrets and whatever Mother Nature wants to reveal for the day. This is a narrated 1.5hr boat tour. It is an educational, historical and adventurous experience. You will check-in at the gift shop/education station. There are games and chairs on the property on the river for you to enjoy while you wait to board the boat. Grab a cold drink, chips or ice cream at the Gift Shop/Snack bar. You will enter the same road as the Waccatee Zoo and follow the Waccamaw River Tours signs to the back of the property along the river. We have our own parking area here, so come join us for a Nature & Wildlife river adventure. You may walk-up but be aware seats may not be available. We also have Private Nature & Wildlife boat tours for small or large groups.

As we were just getting on the boat the narrator announced that his (albeit extremely sweet and well behaved) rottweiler would be joining us for the trip. One woman said she had a phobia of dogs, and he was very dismissive of her. Minutes later she screamed as the dog came near her and he laughed. I was appalled by his insensitivity to the situation when he could have easily had his wife, who was on the dock at the time), take the dog with her. During the tour I found his attempts at humor to be irritating and tried not to listen. We saw an alligator enter the water from shore as we passed, a few more alligator noses/eyes, 2 great blue herons, and osprey carrying a fish, many sunning turtles, and a flying cormorant. Nothing I hadn't already seen during my stay. The scenery was nice and I appreciated the few tidbits of actual true information.

We had the best time on the river tour. The tour guide was so knowledgeable and entertaining that he even managed to keep our 7 year old highly entertained for the nearly 2-hour tour. Lots of funny stories and facts about the rivers and wildlife in the area. Highly recommend!!

Our tour guide (I'm terrible with names so I don't remember his) was very knowledgeable of the area, told several good jokes, and helped us see several animals I would have missed otherwise. Although we accidentally got stuck in one area, the driver easily got us out and on our way. We will definitely be doing this tour again next trip to the area!
