We checked out the Boardwalk after sunset because we wanted to experience some of the night life in Myrtle Beach. Trying to park close to the boardwalk may seem mission impossible, especially along the busy N Ocean Blvd. However, there was plenty of street parking one-two blocks away from the boardwalk. We paid for parking using a mobile app (which was pretty convenient).
Most of boardwalks that I have seen are wide and relatively straight. Except for a relatively short region close to the Pyler Park, the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is mostly winding and relatively narrow. There is a lot of activity on the north side of the boardwalk and things quiet down as you move south. There were just a few people walking / running / biking as we got close to the pier. It took us about 90 minutes to leisurely walk from Pyler Park to the pier and back. People were nice and offering to take family pictures. I also captured a few nice pictures of the (almost) full moon reflecting in the ocean waves. My experience was different from that expressed in some reviews claiming that the area was not safe.
Those looking for a quiet area to exercise or walk and listen to the waves would be happy in the south part of the boardwalk. Those interested in activities and more active nightlife would be happier around Pyler Park. The small amusement park seemed really busy. When we started walking away from Pyler Park (~ 8pm), a DJ was trying to start a party. By the time we came back, the party was in full swing. Many people of all ages were dancing and having a great time. The music stopped around 10pm leaving many people disappointed that the party was too short.

Absolutely would go again, in fact already planning another trip next year. Recommend going after Labor Day as the crowds are starting to lessen and temperature a little milder. Also recommend getting the full experience and stay at a hotel or resort on the beach.

The boardwalk itself is very nice and is well maintained. The boards look recently replaced. The beach there is nice (but I think that is true of most of the grand strand). They have a few signs along the way to show some historical events. Several homeless people hangout there and we kept running into smokers that made the walk unpleasant. The part that goes by all of the junky bars and junky tourist trap stores was our least favorite. We did pay to go out on the pier and that was the best part (and had a restroom to use if you paid for the pier). They only charged $1 a piece. If you get there before 9 am city parking is free and I think city metered street spots may be the least expensive option after 9am.

This is a poor excuse for a boardwalk. There are so many homeless people asking for money. We were told from locals it is a very dangerous place to go at night so stay away. It’s dirty and dingy and so many people were clearly high on drugs. Not a good place for a family with younger children. There’s so many better places like Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing to visit. Don’t waste your time going here. And the cheapest parking we found was $10 for a boardwalk that was super short. It’s absolutely not a mile long. Don’t go here.

There are so many different ways to experience the Myrtle Beach area, but everyone comes together at the boardwalk area which is centrally located. The arcades are fun and there are plenty of stores to look around. The area sometimes attracts a rougher crowd later in the evening so my favorite time is the morning.

Loved our short time on the Boardwalk. There was a live band playing at the Hang Out best of the 90's everyone was having a great time. Boardwalk was very clean with plenty of shops for whatever you liked. I can't wait to go again.

Fun place to walk and watch. Tons of cool shops and places to eat. Plan ahead because the restaurants can book up fast and have long waits. We walked down here many times after dark from our hotel which was located about .75 mile south of here. We had no issues and enjoyed the view. There was live music in the park on a Friday night and people dancing in the grass. Street entertainers were out and yes a few homeless too. Welcome to beach city's. Its worth walking around and grab some food, drinks, or desert and enjoy the people watching. We felt safe the entire time and never say anything negative on Friday night and weekday nights.

We walked the boardwalk on a Sunday and there were more homeless than tourists in the park and on the boardwalk. The shops were dingy and staff of the shops were not pleasant or personable. For example, the candy shop worker had hard core rap playing and was on a personal phone call. I do not recommend the boardwalk - there is plenty of other things to do in Myrtle Beach.

Not what we would have thought for a family vacation destination. Pot smell everywhere with explicit lyrics blasting from stores. Behavior and local characters were also an issue. City has alot of cleaning up to do here if you expect normal families to pay to park and then spend $$. Advice: go elsewhere to Broadway on the beach etc.,

We walked along the promenade for a better view. Little did we know that unless you ate at the restaurant that actually sat on the promenade, you had to pay to go all the way out to ty he part that most visitors sit for a good view of the beachfront. Nonetheless, we came prepared for things to carry fees, so we paid and went out. I was a little nervous because it was made ot of wood that looked old & in need of replacements; however, I did see where new slats were placed. When I asked, i was told that's where the money that's charged goes...for the upkeep & safety of the deck. Oh, there's also a really nice gift shop here also. As you can see from the photo, even dad aka "papa" was a little nervous of the sturdiness...LOL.

The boardwalk is always open but the shops close at their discretion.

We are staying at the Grand Atlantic Resort in June. They only allow 3 parking passes for the resort and we will have 4 vehicles. What are other parking options and costs?

Most parking is very limited, but they're are some additional street parking (if you're lucky to grab one) but you must put money in the meters up to a certain time (I think it's up to 1:00 a.m.--after that, you'll have to be down to the vehicle by 7 or 8 a.m. to re-feed the machine.

Are most of the stores open in early May?

We there in October and most were open so I would believe they'd be open in May, as Spring break (April) is a busy season for them.
Planning to be in Myrtle Beach, staying in an Airbnb in the boardwalk area for Thanksgiving. My son loves to fish. Suggestions?

2nd Ave Pier seems to be very popular to anglers young and old alike.
