About
Located on the grounds of the Long Creek Academy, Wildwater offers Whitewater Rafting on the National Wild and Scenic Chattooga River. Half day, Full day and Overnight trips are available March through October. In addition to rafting there are a number of lodging options on site, a three hour Canopy Tour, Kayak Clinics, SUP and Lake Kayaking. The Chattooga River is a natural flow river and has better rapids when the water levels are higher, typically in the spring and early summer.

Our guide was Phil. Personable and friendly guy. Took us out and took good care. Amazing time! Not only was he able to give us some of the more fun details about the river, he was able to tell us about some of the ecology and things that are affecting the surrounding forest area. There are some areas of the river that are slow to traverse because of safety concerns but Wildwater was very conscientious about ensuring the safety of everyone involved. There wasn't even a question about the professionalism and experience in this team. They were fun when it was time to be fun and they were all business when it was time for that!
I would highly recommend this for anyone looking for a day's worth of adrenaline, especially section 4 of the river. But I caution against anyone who doesn't have some experience, is too young, is not somewhat physically fit or has medical conditions from jumping into this. Give Wildwater a call first and talk it over with them. It's the experience of a lifetime, especially if they know specifically how to accommodate you!

Day 1- Rafting section 4. Team Leader did a great job explaining safety protocols and instruction on rafting procedures. Our guide Jake Cagle made the trip a ton of fun for everyone in the boat. His first and foremost concern was safety. He kept us informed in what to expect and how we were going to navigated each rapid.
Day 2- My husband and I did a whitewater/river kayak clinic. Jake was our guide. This was our first time trying this sport. Again Jake did a great job with instruction and safety! He was extremely patient and understanding. He personalized our trip in every way possible. We were looking for a fun yet challenging day on the river and Jake made sure we chose the way we spent our time. He even took the time to personality make our lunch sandwiches!! Will defiantly be returning.

Just echoing what everyone else is saying. The entire staff; reservation folks, bus drivers, guides, just everyone, are friendly, very professional, amazing. We did the Section 3 raft trip [w/Nathaniel] and enjoyed it so much we came back the next day and did it again [w/Hayden]. Same route, but each day was different and both days were stunningly wonderful. Thank you wildwater.
[For info, nil rafting experience, older retired folks ourselves; children age 9, 10 with their mom/dad in the raft with us on both trips. Rained one day, didn't matter at all].

We had a great time on the mini rafting trip with Katelynn as our guide! Katelynn grew up on the river and was clearly experienced at guiding on this river! We felt safe and had a great time! The mini trip would be a great choice with younger kids. We have all teenagers in my family now and prefer the section III trip as it has slightly larger rapids.

We LOVE Wildwater. The staff are experienced and knowledgeable. I’ve rafted the Chattooga Section 3 and 4, both with guide Nathaniel Goodine. The experience itself is risky and exciting, but we never felt unsafe.

Our family took the Chattooga Mini. It was perfect for first time rafters. We had a great time and can’t wait to do it again. Jake was a fantastic guide!

The Wildwater crew was so welcoming and fun!!
My boyfriend and I had an AMAZING time on our River 3 trip. The rafting was nice and safe with our knowledgeable guide, Dylan! We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day out on the water. The food they brought for lunch was so good. Their company was lighthearted and fun, while also maintaining safe rules and clear instructions to follow. We got awesome action shots in our picture package too ! We plan to come back and do River 4 next year !!!

Just wanted to give a shout out to Wildwater Rafting for an excellent trip down Chattooga River Section 3. Our guide John (a Virginia Tech student) was a fantastic first year guide for a group ranging in age from 19 to upper 50s! He made it fun for us all and kept the group safe at the same time!
The next day we decided to slow it down with a kayak trip on Lake Tugaloo with Hayden, and again we were not disappointed. A fantastic guide who let our group (our family were the only ones on this tour) set the pace for what we wanted to do and how we wanted the tour to look. He and John made sure we were well oriented to what we were going to be doing and prepared for what may happen beforehand.
Both of our guides were respectful and personable. They kept us laughing and having a good time the ENTIRE time. Definitely recommend it and will be coming back again!

What to wear or bring for the river trip?
Jack W
South Carolina99 contributions
Bathing Suit/shorts, t-shirt, sandals or tennis shoes that will stay on your feet. Plan to get wet, plenty of sunscreen, hat to wear under your helmet OK. If you wear glasses you will want a strap or string for them. Extra clothes and a towel are great for after your trip, just leave in your car so you can shower and change when you return to Wildwater. In cooler weather a synthetic shirt or light synthetic jacket will help (no cotton). We have nylon shell paddling jackets available free of charge if rainy or cool.

When lodging at wildwater cottages are linens and towels provided

When you are staying in the yurts, you bring your own linens and towels. The cottages are more upscale and have linens, but I' can't specifically recall about towels because since we're there for rafting and always have our own.

Do they have Yurt Tents like they have at Natahala? How much are they?
skyranger31
Long Creek, SC7 contributions
Yurt lodging at the Chattooga is more of a group facility although families can stay as well. Full kitchen, dining area, charcoal grill and firepit are available for yurt visitors at the Commons Building. the Yurts themselves are bunk style and you must bring your own bedding and towels. 6 fully private bathrooms are also available at the commons building.
Other lodging options at the Chattooga are the Wildwater Cottages and the high end Jawbone and Corkscrew Cabins.
