This is one of those sights that helps put everything back in perspective. Perhaps not so much for children, but as an adult, I found it quite moving. The caretakers are attentive and happy to share some history with those willing to lend an ear....More

This is a free site and worth a stop. The tree is huge. When you first see it, you may think it is not all one tree. Look close and you will realize that it is. It is about 500 years old. Great for photography...More

The Angel Oak is one of the oldest trees in the country. Its sprawling branches span the entire site. People are there to ensure that the tree is properly respected and to answer any questions. It's a bit of a drive to see a tree,...More

This tree is purported to be 400 years old-it will not make it many more years without some protection. There are signs all around the tree saying "please do not sit, lean, etc on the tree." It is old and delicate yet people ignore the...More

Very large tree. Too large to photograph the whole tree in one picture even from a 100 feet away. Small parking lot so best to go on a weekday.

Nature re-connect! We paid homage to the ancient Angel Oak before having breakfast, and it was magical! Longevity, endurance, and the steadfast nature of life triumphant over time underscore the life lesson that when the will is strong, survival and growth ensue. A must-see!

And be warned: the tree has 'hours' that it's open. So if you're planning to drive 2.5 hours, make sure you arrive when the gates are open, so you can walk around the tree. Otherwise you'll be stuck admiring it from afar... More
