Daufuskie Island Guided History Tour from Hilton Head with Ferry Transportation

116 reviews
Remote Daufuskie Island is accessible only by boat and remains largely undeveloped, despite its fame as the setting of Pat Conroy’s novel “The Water is Wide.” A guided tour makes the trip a cinch—this package includes round-trip ferry tickets, plus transportation between island attractions such as the First African Baptist Church and Mary Fields School, all visited with the benefit of commentary from your guide.

We love Burkes Beach. During our stay in October it was almost empty except for a few beachgoers, beach cruisers and pups. The beach is super clean and very quiet.

On the day we went, there were no visible sea shells-I like to walk along the beach looking for shells. Instead I walked and my husband ran among the beach. It was beautiful and not crowded at all. No commercialism, just a beautiful place.

the trek from the parking to the shore is about a ten minute walk. The beach was clean and for the most part people were socially distanced. The sand is quite warm in the summer so wear some type of shoe. The rinse station wasn’t on; not sure if that was due to Covid 19 or not.

This beach was definitely our favorite on our trip! It had the perfect amount of waves, not too big. It was a quieter beach. And it had a water spout near the park to wash off. However, I will say the walk to get out to the beach is a rough one and is not good for young kids because there’s no board walk or tarp to make the sand easier to walk on. But overall, a great clean beach!

Beautiful beach, quietly tucked away. Easy to get to, with free parking close by. White sandy beaches. Great for families
