Girls Hilton Head Weekend

Very interesting little cemetery just off the road. The parking is limited, but we were the only people there.

After visiting the ruins in Sea Pines, this is a must. It is a shame that they don't put a permanent roof on the mausoleum since it is the oldest building on Hilton Head.

Wife and I visit a lot of cemeteries and this one is really in bad shape. Lots of important history here. Looks like Hilton Head Area spends more time in taking care of its golf courses instead of taking care of its history.

Located on the main drag by folly beach road, it's an old cemetery. The signage tells you it's significance. Sadly the old church no longer stands. It's worth a stop as you pass by.

This was full of history and made me think of those who have gone on before us. This is a nice historical cemetery which is easily accessable.

The cemetery is all that remains of the original Zion Chapel of Ease, a chapel built to accommodate those islanders who found it bothersome to sail or row to the mainland, Bluffton, each Sunday to attend the Episcopal St. Luke's Parish located there. (Think about that on your next ride to church.) So the chapel was built on these grounds... More

Very old headstones. Shady. The Mausoleum is of the gentleman who owned the house/plantation (now ruins) on Sea Pines on the way to Harbortown. I highly suggest both. They make history come alive.

Glad we came across the mausoleum and grave stones. Easy to find. Suggest to wear bug spray. It's s small cemetery but worth looking at. One stone is leaning at a tree. You really feel for the poor young souls.

Learn a bit about the early inhabitants of the Island. Interesting headstones and a small mausoleum will take about 10-15 minutes to explore. My only caution is to remember to spray yourself with insect repellent before visiting as we got bit up by mosquitoes, but its worth a short stop to step back in time.

This is a fascinating cemetery! They are trying to get it on a historical registry and in the process of doing so much work to make it more visitor friendly!
