We frequent Hilton Head and the Bluffton area; we have family and friends in these areas. I have become more and more disappointed with our stays at hotels, meals at restaurants and general service at most locations. Hotels seem dirty and poorly managed, restaurant service is lazy and lacking, food has gone downhill fast, and the overall quality of the area has suffered. The pandemic is seemingly the crutch/excuse for excessively long waits in restaurants, and other mentioned poor conditions. I was told because it's an affluent area its unaffordable to hourly workers therefore staffing is difficult. I no longer schedule my stays there and now call ahead to surrounding locations and ask what their situation is. I have found much better and more affordable arrangements in Port Royal and Beaufort.

A charming and casual eatery at the Westin.
Adjacent to the pools and the activity center for watersports, etc. this was an open and casual spot to appreciate the climate and ocean views. Definitely reknown for its exotic drinks that make sunbathing even more enjoyable, they also provide some casual snacks and meals. SPLASH provided stop shelf coolers, frozen refreshers and smoothies. Our favorites: Brittany's Blanc a frozen drink for $12 that lasted; Ketel one Relaxer with exotic vodka, agave, coconut and muddled raspberry $13 ; and the non-alcoholic peach mojito $7 . All so refreshing!! The pulled pork sandwich for $13 with side of slaw was filling and the nachos for $13 suited us just fine. The kids menu was $8, and the adults ranged from $12 to 18. Mostly self-serve,

This is a family destination dedicated to basic past times. Long strip of soft sand on a murky ocean. Golf, tennis, bikes and boats. Run of the mill food at all dining levels. Very upper middle class suberbia vibe.
Its clean, expensive and high end basic.

Do not come here if your in an RV or camper. You Are NOT welcome here. Especially at a place called Sea Pines where Harbor Town is. You won’t get past the front gate. Miserable uppity snobby area. Do yourself a favor, keep going! Spend your money where your welcome. It’s not here!

I have been in Hilton Head several times and living in San Diego where we have great beaches make me wonder if there is something better, I have to say Hilton Head Island is spectacular, the beaches are really beautiful and unique, the town itself has great food and great little shops.

The energy of this place is simply magical, if you have time do not think twice and make your trip to Hilton Head, it is beautiful.

H20Sports is AWFUL!!
We were a group of 4; used them to go from the Marriott Heritage Resort to g Daufuskie Island. The captain was arrogant and rude. We are a group of senior women, one member a stroke survivor. WE we carrying a cooler and day bags. He never offered to help us onto the boat, nor off . When we asked questions; he was curt and condescending. He told us to "keep the parade going"...as we disembarked the boat and walked towards the marina...We also rented a golf cart from him. He offered no instruction on operating the vehicle. Again, when we asked questions, especially about a map...he cut us off and told us to find the historical building for one. WE did enjoy our day, but WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY H2O Sports to anyone.

Hilton Head has a beautiful beach, but the entire area of Hilton Head is much prettier than most beach areas in the US. We have been to beaches in California, Florida, North and South Carolina and New England. We feel HH has one of the prettiest areas overall.

During the past 4 years I have visited beaches all along the coast of California and the Mediterranean and none compare to the beautiful, amazingly long white sand beaches on Hilton Head Island, SC! Some of you may prefer over crowded pebbly or even rocky beaches. If so, I DO recommend the French Riviera or the amazing coast of California! However, if you want a gently slopping hard packed sand beach suitable for walking miles & miles go to Hilton Head Island, SC. We love Hilton Head for many reasons. The restaurants do not disappoint and menus change throughout the year. We have gone in every season. Wading birds in the marshes are amazing in early Spring. Dolphin walks can be had in the winter and early Spring. Ocean swimming is perfect in the early Autumn and summer! I will return to Croatia and hope the beaches are as unspoiled and pretty as they were 3 years ago. I will also continue to visit Hilton Head Island, SC 3 times a year!

The area leading up to the beach is very nice, paved, clean with bathrooms and restaurants within walking distance. The beach itself is pretty nice with umbrella and chair rentals available. The one thing I would not recommend is swimming anywhere in the ocean here. I came upon a 5 ft shark in knee deep water. Absolutely freaked me out. We went on a shark fishing tour in the marshes around the island and found out these marshes are nurseries for all kinds of baby sharks. There are also turtles that lay their eggs on the Hilton Head beaches and as these sharks grow and leave the marshes they probably search for food along the coast including baby turtles. Hilton Head is a planned community island with a lot of rules and regulations. For example, I thought it was weird none of the condos or homes sit close to the beach. Then I learned lights and shades must be out from 10pm to 6am on the island because of the hatching sea turtles. You can go to the beach with red flashlights but because of alligators we did not try this. The most untouched part of the island is on the northern or Port Royal Plantation where beaches are underpopulated and is a picture taking mecca for families. You can observe whales, dolphins, alligators, eagles and other birds. I prefer a more natural unplanned beach vacation where I can swim and or snorkel. Hilton Head has no blue water but it is great for biking and golfing. Its almost a home away from home and for people who really want an experience that provides comfort and familiarity. If you want adventure and the ability to explore I would suggest taking excursions or visiting other cities like we did. The island is beautiful but too cookie cutter for what we like.

Our trip to Hilton Head Island was definitely a disappointment, from the crazy round about intersections to hard as rock sand to the no taller than 6 story buildings. I will never go back there ever.
