Daufuskie Island Guided History Tour from Hilton Head with Ferry Transportation

113 reviews
Remote Daufuskie Island is accessible only by boat and remains largely undeveloped, despite its fame as the setting of Pat Conroy’s novel “The Water is Wide.” A guided tour makes the trip a cinch—this package includes round-trip ferry tickets, plus transportation between island attractions such as the First African Baptist Church and Mary Fields School, all visited with the benefit of commentary from your guide.

I cannot say enough great things about this experience. The entire staff were so friendly and very informative. This was my first time ever on a horse and I felt the guides gave me great instructions. They me feel comfortable the entire ride. The trail we took went through the Sea Pine Reserve an absolutely beautiful, area, with wildlife and Indian History. It is also a great place for small children with pony rides and a petting zoo, I look forward to going again the next time we come for vacation.

The entire staff at Lawton Stables are tremendously professional and knowledgeable. I have been exceedingly impressed by the kind and courteous nature of all the staff with whom I have dealt. This is a group of people that love this island, love their horses and love to share information with locals and visitors. I highly recommend Lawton Stables for trail rides, farm animal visits, pony rides or a "stop by". Jim Riely

We really enjoyed this experience. Lawton really cares for their animals, I've been to some places and felt like the animals were an afterthought of the business. Lawton clearly has their priorities in the right place. We had a large party of 9 and felt very well taken care of. They are VERY professional and careful regarding COVID (can't remove face masks until the horses are lined up and walking - no side by side either). The guides were very knowledgeable and helpful along the path. 2/3 of the ride is shaded, so it was a very relaxing and peaceful ride. I recommend getting a phone case with wrist strap to be able to take photos along the ride, as there is no place to put your phone except a pocket you may not be able to reach once mounted. DO NOT FORGET CLOSE TOED SHOES!

Our bigger kids loved the pony rides, although our little one was a little fearful. We do wish the pony rides were a bit longer. They also loved the petting zoo, especially the goats!

Although we were unable to make our trail ride due to unforeseen circumstances , Lawton. Stables was kind and ethical . We received an email about 90” after our cancellation that they were able to book our slots and had issued a full refund ! This level of understanding and good business practice was greatly appreciated . We highly recommend this company for kindness and ethical business practices ! Thanks !
