About
The Official Daufuskie Island Ferry is delightful, enjoyable, and comfortable. During the 40 minute ride you will see dauphins, seabirds and lovely shoreline vistas. The yacht-like ferry features a spacious outside deck and a comfortable teak-lined climate-controlled cabin. It runs on a fixed daily schedule, rain or shine. Daily parking is free. There is no charge for carry-on luggage/bags/coolers/bicycles which passengers carry-on themselves. Children 5 years old and younger ride for free. Tickets can be purchased on-line from the ferry website or by credit card when boarding the ferry. The ferry leaves from Buckingham Landing at the foot of the Hilton Head bridge on the Bluffton side. Reservations are encouraged. Captain Richard Inglis is accommodating and professional and his crew is exceptionally helpful.

Great passage to Daufuskie

The crew was top-notch and helpful, and the ride was on time and pleasant. I appreciate efforts to apply virus protocols for the safety of passengers and will definitely ride again. Thank you.

Very nice boat ride

This was such an enjoyable experience . The captain on both trips was very nice ! The assistant on both was Stephanie who was very friendly and helpful! She was a very nice! The cabin below is air-conditioned yet you can see very well the dolphins in the water if you're lucky! You do have to wear a mask the whole trip!😔

Lacking COVID protocol follow through
May 2021 • Family
Not COVID compliant. What a joke. They told everyone to wear a mask yet over half the people in the tiny enclosed with windows and air condition space took their mask off, including the staff. It is not an open air ferry situation. It is a very small space to be in with strangers from all over. Disappointed in their lackadaisical procedures.

Good experience
Apr 2021
Our first time to Daufuskie Island. We liked the flexibility of being able to plan our trip with the ferry leaving Hilton Head and Daufuskie four times per day. The boat ride over was enjoyable.

Very disappointing! Better ways to spend your day!

Let me start by saying...Don’t Do this trip! I want you to see this first in case you don’t want to read this whole review! My husband and I wanted to do something new, so we thought this would be a fun activity for our 36th Anniversary. We booked online and that was the easiest part of our adventure. We arrived at the parking area and caught the shuttle over to the marina. When it was time to board the ferry we were just told to go ahead and board. Once on board we had to ask if we could sit on the deck instead of sitting in the small cabin. Were told we could and that WE could start passing out chairs for everyone who wanted to stay on deck. We were literally elbow to elbow on this very small deck. Once we arrived on the island, we all just left the boat and off the dock with ZERO instructions from anyone on the ferry. There was a person at the end of the dock leading everyone to their rented golf cart. After that you were on you own again with a useless map to find you way around this small island with one paved road and a lot of rough rutted dirt roads. Some nice houses but mostly run down homes. Almost all the destinations that were on the map was either not open or just not there at all. We did see several restaurants open but they were crowded and we didn’t want to wait! We finally figured out how to get to the beach and as we traveled down the dirt road, our golf cart broke down. After about 30 mins we were brought a new cart and on our way again. The beach was beautiful but not better than any other beach I’ve been to. We finally drove back to the marina and waited for the return trip on the ferry. oh! Bring bug spray! The biting gnats are terrible! This trip was better because it was a bigger boat. It was faster and more comfortable. We sat on the deck again as did a lot of others. One family had their poor dog with them and the captain told us that because dogs were not allowed inside, they took priority Seating on deck. He then ask if someone would give up their seat so that the dog and his owner could sit outside! The dog did not need a seat and the owner could sit on the floor but because this person wanted to torture their dog by bringing him on this “adventure” someone else who paid the same price had to give up their seat outside! Ridiculous! If the dog gets priority seating over people then the dogs owner should have to pay extra for it!
We didn’t let all of these issues ruin our day. We made the best of it and actually enjoyed our time together but this was not the best way to spend our day!
I will never do this again and I would never recommend this to anyone! I think it is poorly organized, falsely advertised, and quite honestly, dangerous!

Great service!
Mar 2021 • Family
The ferry to and from Daufuskie Island was quick, easy ride and the team offered great customer service! We missed the last boat over on Saturday due to several traffic issues in Florida, and the team set us up with a water taxi (additional cost) but credited the cost of the ferry ride, which they were not obligated to do.

A Nice Ride

We took the Ferry to Dafuskie Island. It takes about 30 minutes one way. On tjhe way we looked for dolphins and we got lucky. The boat was clean and the Captain was very informative.

Dangerous
Feb 2021
Very dangerous and not complaint by coast guard rules and regulations. They over sell the boat and shove you in like sardines. The downstairs is where most people are forced to sit. Gave me an eerie feeling....tiny windows that don’t open. If anything happened I can’t imagine anyone down there would make it out. When we took it over their was 17 people on top in a very small space by where the luggage for overnight guests is kept. It became standing room only. Not allowed according to the coast guard. Very dangerous. They don’t give any safety message about where or if you can find floatation devices onboard. Should be shut down. Daufuskie Island needs a safe reliable service and this isn’t it.

Ferry to Dafuskie.
Dec 2020
It was cold out so we chose to stay below in the warm cabin. The trip was smooth and we arrived with no problems. I think the trip would have been more memorable on a war day when we could have take in the sights, but overall a good experience.

NOT covid compliant, TOO many people, We had a warm smooth weather day. I would NOT want to be on this in windy or rough water days.
