We drove to the main office building where we were greeted by the sweetest gentleman. He offered a plethora of information on the wildlife in the area and directions on getting to the trail. It was awfully hot so we weren't sure if we would...More

Took a break from the beach to try the refuge and some hiking with my pup. What we found was many places that weren’t dog friendly and poorly marked trails. This place is better if you’re a human & especially a human who likes to...More

A wonderfully scenic and slow few mile drive filled with lots of birds and alligators to spot. This is great for the heat and the bugs, one can stop and jump out for photos or a closer look then be back in comfort. The Nature...More

We were given advice from a friend to check the refuge out. We had a great ride, its just a small dirt road not even 2 lanes wide but great views. We saw 5 alligators between mile 2.5 and mile 4. If you've got 20...More

We saw this as we were driving from Savannah to Charleston and decided to make a quick stop to check it out. Went into the office where the lady at the info desk told us about a 4 mile drivable loop through the refuge and...More

My kids were very excited to be able to see wildlife in their natural habitats. Although the day was hot, they still enjoyed alligator spotting. Definitely bring plenty of water on hot days, and plenty of bug spray. The ability to go at your own...More

This is purely a refuge. There is an abundance of alligators, birds, beautiful plants and trees, and it’s just a way to see all in its natural habitat without many people around, or cages, or anything to hinder seeing these animals just doing their natural...More

People walk, run, jog, bike, etc the four mile tour all the time. It’s perfectly acceptable to do so. You can Uber there and back. You will need insect repellent. Hope you enjoy our refuge. 🙂

There are a lot of different animals. It's sometimes difficult to spot them, but it's nature, you will find many different birds, spiders, snakes, gators and many more.

I don't know too much about golf carts but the road through the refuge is long and rough. I only saw cars and trucks on the road. However, I think a golf cart could get through.
