Description:

The Greenville Downtown Airport's Runway Park at GMU, which is free to use...

The Greenville Downtown Airport's Runway Park at GMU, which is free to use and open to the public, has an educational amphitheater, exercise "Perimeter Taxiway" and walking "Runways", as well as aviation themed playground equipment, a swing set, a Bi-plane "Climber", a picnic hangar and a Cessna 310 static display. A 15-foot cross section of a Boeing 737 fuselage is its' handicapped accessible park entrance. In the future, education of aviation signs will be added to the park! We plan to cover items like: What runway markings mean, about air traffic controllers language, how aircraft achieve flight, about the Boeing fuselage entrance, Cessna 310 on display, parts of aircraft, careers and education in the aviation industry, General Aviation aircraft uses, gauges on aircraft instrument panels, how weather affects flight, local aviation history, types of aircraft, airport items like: Windsock, how planes "park" (on apron and tied down) etc... The South Carolina Aeronautics Commission, South Carolina Aviation Association, Michelin and Lockheed Martin have pledged generous donations to help us with this part of the park project! We are now applying for grants, planning more fundraisers and seeking financial help to add park restrooms and the paving of the park's parking lot.

Fun for all! If you love planes, this is for you! Children will love it!

Children love it! You can eat in cafe afterwards. They have a child's menu as well as great food for adults. From soup/salads, to sandwiches.

Great food and great service! We loved enjoying our lunch as we watched the planes take off and land then took the kids to play at the adjoining park! The Kittinger is a vegetarian's delight and sweet potato fries are great! Of course, my kids had to have fried Oreos for dessert! Yum!

This unique playground is great for children, and it allows them to see departing and arriving flights at the Downtown Airport.

This place is perfect for kids that are bored as it is visually fantastic and located feet from the working runway

Runway park has been a wonderful addition to Greenville. The kid's have a blast with the various playgrounds and runways where they can ride their bikes & trikes. The park is new and continuously being added to. Runway cafe is right there to grab a nice bite to eat, and is very reasonable!

My 3 year old grandson loves this place. The play equipment is interesting and colorful and the added bonus of watching airplanes taking off and landing is great.

This park is a great place for young kids. It is right on the side of the downtown airport. It is far enough away that the sounds of the planes isn't a problem, but plenty close enough that your child will see planes take off and land on a regular basis. Multiple slides and a small track that kids can... More

I brought my two grandchildren here and they had a blast. Great covered picnic area. Not very large but still lots of fun. Great restaurant connected to the park. My grandchildren loved watching the small planes take off and land while they were playing. Be sure and bring ride on toys as there is a paved area circling the park... More

My son loves this park and its obvious everyone else does as well considering they are always crowded. Pros: The biggest attraction is the runway and allowing your children the opportunity to be so close to planes. Restrooms are a top concern when having toddlers. The cafe allows access to theirs and its always clean. Food in close range, so... More

We sometimes take our grandson here to play on the playground. if your child has a bike or scooter, there is a nice little paved circle around the perimeter also. There are some picnic tables on site sheltered so it makes it easy to rest without the sun pounding down the whole time you are there. The playground is pretty... More
