My wife and I recently relocated to this area after I retired and we decided to take the tour. The tour is excellent and something we would highly recommend to anyone who is interested in learning more about the history of Greenville. John is extremely knowledgeable and he gives participants a great overview of the city providing lots of interesting stories and information along the way!

My husband and I LOVED the Historic Neighborhoods and Architecture Tour in Greenville. We went the Friday after Memorial Day and John led us on an informative and fun tour. The air-conditioned van was impeccably clean; John wore a mask and gloves and we felt extremely safe.
At the start he offered to personalize our tour and we asked him to do the "usual" unless it was possible to see the Frank Lloyd Wright house as we are fans of FLW's architecture. While the entire tour was amazing and we learned a lot and saw a lot, it was awesome to be able to see this specific property.
John has an abundance of knowledge about the history and architecture of Greenville and he supplements his narrative with pictures of the insides of the buildings on a tv type screen in the van. That helped provide a complete view of the houses/buildings. Great multimedia experience!
When we return to Greenville, we will take another one of John's tours!

Absolutely fascinating mill tour! I had no idea of or about mills prior to the tour. This 2 hour tour went by in a hurry and exceeded my expectations! I would highly recommend this tour to anyone. John brought history to life as we were wandering through the mill's villages and at some point, we were at the very same spot where he had a 100+ year old photograph of the mill, general store, churches and homes that we could compare to how it looks today. That was exceptionally fascinating. Many of the homes are still being lived in, and many of the churches still have active congregations. Got some sense of knowledge of how people lived and their sense of community. Kudos to John for bringing the past to the present. I can sense your genuinely in love with history and most of all the pride you have in your hometown, Greenville!!

We have lived in Greenville for over 30 years and we learned so much on this tour! We saw parts of Greenville we have never seen and learned all about the history of its 11 mills. John has collected so many pictures of the old mill villages, the people who started the mills and the people who worked in the mills that he would show and tell us about as we were driven around in his comfortable van. The stories were absolutely fascinating. Highly recommend this tour for history buffs, people who want to learn more about Greenville and people who are curious about textile history. This tour offers a window into the past that you would never otherwise learn about.

Outstanding food tour!! John was very engaging with every person in our group. His presentation of the history of Greenville was interesting, and impressive.
John’s strong relationship with all of the Chefs and managers creates a better experience. I feel that the chefs all did their very best and it was one of the best food tours I’ve ever experienced. And my wife and I have enjoyed food tours from Florence, Italy, New York, NY, Savannah, GA. Etc. John and ALL of the chefs are a step ahead.

We really enjoyed our tour with At The Chefs Table Culinary Tour! Our host, John Nolan, was very informative about the history of Greenville, which was a definite plus to our tour. We sampled items from 4 different restaurants in downtown, all were delicious and we would visit each restaurant again! Our ONLY criticism would be that John walks very fast, so keeping up with him can be a challenge if you enjoy taking in the sights of this beautiful city - but it was very cold, so possibly he was trying to get us to the next location as quickly as possible. Schedule a tour if you are visiting Greenville , or even live nearby, to learn about the history and try offerings from places you might not try on your own. We look forward to our next trip to Greenville!

Thank you! I'm so happy you enjoyed it. Sorry for the bit of brisk walking, but you are correct...I was trying to minimize the time in the cold...especially the longer walk between Lazy Goat and Soby's.

The Culinary Tour was amazing. We had a lovely time with John and the Executive Chefs. They are wonderful hosts and very knowledgeable about the area. Each menu item & beverage we tasted was delicious. We particularly enjoyed walking through the city and stopping along the way to hear about the history behind the cityscape. Our family will tour again for Breakfast and BBQ.

It was our first visit to Greenville so we decided to start with a tour. John was great! He is extremely knowledgeable - we even found one of his books in a downtown store. I highly recommend one of his tours for a better understanding and appreciation of where this beautiful city began and where it’s headed.

John picked us up in his van (2 couples). He had a monitor in the van so we could all see what he was describing as he drove us through some wonderful sections of this great city. He was very informative and it was fantastic to see and learn about this area of SC. I would highly recommend this tour--especially for those who do not want to walk on foot. Well worth the price. My husband loved it too!

I got this tour for my husband for a birthday present. Ordering the tickets online was easy. When I called the office to ask a question, there was always someone who answered (even at 7:00 pm, when I expected to leave a voicemail) and they knew how to answer all of my questions.
During our tour, we enjoyed four savory dishes and one sweet dish. I had my first taste of grits at a Grits Bar. They were delicious! Between locations, John- our tour guide- showed us pictures and shared some of the history of the buildings we were visiting. It was interesting to learn about some of the crazy uses for the older buildings.
There was a moderate amount of walking on the tour, so I suggest anyone with difficult mobility call ahead. They were able to meet dietary needs and always offered other beverages if you didn’t like the wine/beer/cocktail pairing provided.
Thank you for a great time! We are looking forward to another tour next year!

Does the tour include the cost of food or will we need to budget for additional food cost? And what is the max group size for yours?

We will be checking in on Thursday Dec 1 and leaving Sunday, Dec 4, would we be able to join a tour during this time? If so, should I go ahead and make reservations for 4?
Written November 1, 2016
You need to call the owner of the tour and seek a reservation with him. The name is listed in my review, and there is a website with a phone number...........

Hi Patricia,
Saturday tours tend to be more casual...shorts, jeans, khaki, etc and Tues evening tours tend to be nice casual or business casual dress. That said, guests come in t shirts and are fine. It's up to you, but the above suggestions are just that...suggestions.
Thanks!
