- StigJimAlliance, Ohio704 contributionsWell Worth ItWe love historic tours, so on our vacation to Myrtle Beach we decided to drive an hour south and take in Georgetown. The volunteers at the Kaminski House were all very pleasant and knowledgeable. The house itself has an interesting history and lots of fascinating furnishings. The house itself has a lengthy and very interesting history, which our docent covered, but I give them a lot of credit for maintaining the house to reflect the final private owners, the Kaminskis. When we visited several years ago, the tour included a brief trip next door to the adjacent 1740 home. Apparently, that property can now be rented for private events. The fact that the tour now focuses on the Kaminski House actually makes for a much better tour.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 6, 2023
- Gypsy Girl 425Georgetown, Texas462 contributionsBeautiful old home!We toured the Kaminski House Museum on 4/5/2024 at 1:00 pm and we were the only two on the tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the home and the area. It is being carefully restored and it was fun to see all the original furniture, art, books etc. They have a senior discount so it was $10.00 for my husband and $13.00 for us to take the tour. They rent the front grounds out for weddings and events. The home sits off of the river so you can walk along the harbor before or after you take your tour.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 11, 2024
- Beverly AAiken, South Carolina209 contributionsA treasure in Georgetown. We had the pleasure of a "private tour" of this fabulous national treasure and I would encourage anyone visiting Georgetown, SC, to take the time to schedule one of the tours. The tour host just happened to be from a town we used to live in and that made it a bit more personal for us. He was so knowledgeable about the history of the this home and the family who lived there. It's as if the family were still living there and they just were out for a while. Evidently, Mrs. Kaminski wanted nothing to be taken out of this home nor added upon her death and her wishes have been met. We learned about the original size of the historic home and then how it was enlarged to meet the requirements of the Kaminskis. Fascinating stories.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 22, 2024

I had been to Georgetown a few times over the last couple years. The house had always been closed due to cpvid. I was pleasantly surprised to see it was open this trip and went to the first available tour.
This is a beautiful house. The guide, Nick, was very informative and interacted well with 3 teenagers and myself. Both of the 2 stories are open for the tour. If in Georgetown, I strongly recommend the tour.

Stopped in Georgetown as a detour from Myrtle Beach. The inside of the property was not open but you could walk around the grounds (and the restroom building was open). The property is gorgeous and the view of the river with the trees over hanging is just gorgeous. It was amazing to imagine living there in this quiet section of town.

This was a fun house to visit. It sits on a very pretty hill in town. There were two primary owners, the last of whom, the Kaminskis, left the home pretty much exactly as it was when they lived there. Nick was our guide and he was very good. We were able to visit all the rooms on the first and second floors. There are restrooms and a nice gift shop.

Whenever we are in an area we like to take in some local history. This was a great tour with a very knowledgeable tour guide. It was a very interesting history lesson of the family and the area. If you are in the area this is a great use of your time.

Our guide was Linda, she was very knowledgeable. We thought it was a plantation, but it was not a typical cotton plantation. It was a rice plantation. It was in the small town of Georgetown. One of the first houses built there that is on public display. This is not a tour for little kids that can't keep still and to themselves, as it is a 1:30 min-1:45 min tour with a small space to move around with a lot of antiques.

My family has tried to tour this palce several times in the last few years and still haven't been able to do so. We planned very careful this time to make sure we would be there at tour time. We checked websites, did e-mails, checked Georgetown tourists papers, etc. and once again we missed the tours. The tours are only done at limited times...not like the websites say (on the hour). this is not worth the frustation and besides there are many other things to do in Georgetown.

Great house left just as it was when the owner died. Bridge table setup, sweater on back of chair. A great glimpse into how people lived.
