My sister and I came to South Carolina on a much needed week long vaction. We had looked at a different tour company but due to scheduling issues had to swich to Captin Rod's Shell Island & Lighthouse tour. It was the best money we spent our entire trip, The Captin and crew were entertaining and made the last day we spent in South Carolina Amazing! We will be recommending you to family and friends.

We were in Myrtle Beach and someone we ran in to told us we had to book a trip with Cap'n Rod's Lowcountry Shell Island & Plantation Tours. I booked a group of five for Tuesday, April 28. The booking was simple, we received an email confirmation. Upon arrival, check in was smooth and it was a short walk to the boat. Everyone on the boat can hear as he used a microphone and speakers, but with our seats near the front, we had a front row seat to Captain Rod's facial expressions! Paige played the straight man to Captain Rod's hilarious schtick. In Kenny Chesney's song "Guys Named Captain" it says, guys named captain are always characters. Captain Rod did not disappoint. Paige spotted a couple of eagles for us. We found some nice shells, but not a ton. The shells were a bonus. The trip and the stories were worth the price of admission. We will certainly be back.

Amazing experience. Nice boat ride learning about the ecology and history of the area. North Island did not disappoint. I found some great shells and loved being on an undisturbed undeveloped island in the wilderness. Learned some interesting history, saw some bald eagles! This is one of the things we did not know if we wanted to do, ended up being a highlight of our trip! I recommend planning to spend time in Georgetown after or before the tour they have a free maritime museum a rice museum. Gorgetown is a hidden gem.

First, the cost of the trip was overpriced. You’d think there would be a discount for eight people which included 3 children. The boat ride to the island was relaxing but the toilet was totally disgusting (not clean and unorganized). There was a charge for the snacks which should have been free due to the cost of the tour. Once we were on the island it was interesting but the time spent there was much too long. Once back on the boat for a while we were able to see some dolphins which was the highlight of the trip. It was difficult to hear the speaker due to the loud engine. I will not recommend this tour to any of my friends or family. Way overpriced for what we expected.

My wife and I are on a mission to see as many lighthouses as we can. We have been a good many lighthouses but never to the Georgetown Lighthouse which is the closest to us. So we booked a trip to see the Georgetown lighthouse with Capn Rod's, The cruise was very enjoyable. The boat captain, Captain Coop, and Paige was very interactive with the folks on the boat. And gave some great info on the history of the area. The weather was perfect for the cruise. On the way out we went pretty much straight to North Island which is where the lighthouse and shelling is. but on the way back they would get closer to the islands for a chance to see wildlife. A couple of things. The tour is more so a shelling tour than a lighthouse tour. When the boat actually comes on the beach at North Island it is a fairly good distance away from the lighthouse. When you get off the boat , the best area for shelling is to the right and the light house is to the left a good distance down the beach. All of the rest of the guest went for the shelling and went to the right. My wife and I went to the left and the lighthouse was about a 20 - 25 minute walk one way. So most of the time that is allowed on the island was there and back. One couple that did some shelling found some awesome shells. Another small note, even thogh there was small children on the boat, the captain didnt mind letting a four letter word out every now and then. It was not really that overt, and it would not keep me from taking children on the trip, and he was just being himself, but it did happen.

Second time we have taken this tour. It is a relaxing ride out to, and back from North Island. The weather ended up being great and many were fortunate to find large conch/whelk shells. The only part I have a hard time with is the tour being "sold" as "You will have one and a half hours to leisurely stroll an unspoiled beach, accessible only by boat." Upon arriving on the island, we were told that it was 9:35am. Be back on the boat by 10:35 am. $170 + for two grandkids & two grandparents and then only be given an hour, instead of the advertised & expected "You will have one and a half hours to leisurely stroll an unspoiled beach..." - a disappointment for the kids & us.

This was a great experience for me and my family! The tour ran on time, lasting four hours. As we rode to the island, the guide gave some area history. He was friendly and made things fun with lively music. The boat would slow down when a group of dolphins were spotted, which we appreciated! The island was empty except for our group, and we had the freedom to explore it for 90 minutes. It was beautiful. A sudden rainstorm soaked us as our time was wrapping up, but we made the most of it and would absolutely recommend it to others. A great adventure!

While the trip went as planned, we who had followed the guideline to sign up had to wait for all of these others who showed up even past time to leave including a person who had extreme difficulty in getting on the boat. I had no problem with her coming and taking a while to get on but she and her party should have had to abide by the same rules we followed …to be there one-half hour before sailing.
The so-called captain had some lame comments and punchlines but not really good information. His mate Thom gave us a much better picture of Georgetown and the waterways around it. And would it have been nice to talk about shelling, why doing then, what some common shells we may find, and other bits of info.
I enjoyed the shelling but it seemed like the mighty dollar worked harder than the customer care.

We had a great time. Enjoyed the trip. Captain Doug was not only a great captain, but also an excellent story teller. Kept us entertained & told us some history of the area.

Captain Doug was a hoot. He & Thom recommended some really great places to eat in Georgetown. Christian was very helpful in making sure my mom (who’s in a wheelchair) got off the boat & up the ramp safely.

We had a total of 10 in our party (9 family members & 1 friend). Ages ranging from 14 to 72. Overall was an excellent experience. Everyone enjoyed it. We all agree we would definitely take another tour w/ Cap’n Rod’s again.

Most enjoyable part of our Lowcountry vacation. Easy to book and leaving from charming Georgetown is a plus. The boat was immaculate, Capt. Thom provided an entertaining and informative narrative. The shelling on North Island was the best shelling I've ever experienced in South Carolina. Fantastic tour. We'll be booking again....always something new to see.
