- Dede KPittsburgh, Pennsylvania2,701 contributionsBeautiful view!We took a stroll out on the pier in the evening just before the sun went down. I just love the idea of walking out so far over the ocean! Umbrellas set up to sit under, people fishing…a relaxed, laid back time for anyone especially those on vacation. Water and shoreline looked beautiful on both sides. Grabbed some pics of my family and the water. Hit the arcade after for some fun with the kids. You will definitely want to check it out if visiting. No charge and a beautiful view!Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 18, 2023
- Dede KPittsburgh, Pennsylvania2,701 contributionsJust Beachy! We loved our most recent family vacation to SC. We stayed in Garden City in October for the first time and loved this beach! Our house was located just across from the beach so we could view the beauty of the sunrise and sparkling water. So beautiful! We like to come in October, because there’s less of a crowd and more room to maneuver in the sand and water. The kids absolutely love going into the water even this time of year. Just coming out of summer, it still has a warmth to it, not nearly as hot as summer, but still a nice temperature. Either way, the huge sandbox of a beach is wonderful. The kids love to play in the sand, building, castles, and digging to bury each other. My older kids enjoy having enough room to toss around a football or have a race along the water. Another plus to where we were located is the Garden City pier off to the right. It’s within walking distance to go out on and even when we were sitting beachside, it’s a gorgeous picture. We made sure to come down during the evening to see the sun go down and take some pretty pictures. The seagulls are plentiful in this area which the kids love. My only complaint is the fact that there are not enough seashells. One of the best things about the beach is the seashells. This specific beach did not have many at all, and what we did find was very, very small. I know that there is some kind of a crusher that comes in, but I wish that it could just go back to allowing the seashells to lie where they may. If you have a chance to stay near this beach, or just come down to visit, I would highly recommend it. A very beautiful area!Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten January 27, 2024
- Patty531Vestal, New York55 contributionsFun open-air bar.Fun open-air bar at the end of the pier! Went two nights during our stay & listened to a different band each night. Both were great. Families are allowed, even if under 21 & there is fishing allowed as well. Something different than the usual beach bar.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 19, 2024

Have loved this area and vacationed here many times but a heads up: the pier has a live band until midnight every night. A loud band. And fireworks are shot on the beach every night until 11–11:30 non stop. If you want to go to sleep any earlier than that it’s not going to happen. So as long as this is going on I won’t be vacationing here again! I came on vacation to rest and relax but all the noise made that impossible. So sad!

We had a good couple of visits to this place with not issues from security, but tonight when we tried to get in at 930 the security stopped us and would not let us in because we had two people under 21 with us. I pointed to the sign that clearly states that rule is not in effect until 10pm. And also two nights and the night before there were teens dancing to the band around 9-930 so what changed? And he said no if the band is playing no one 21 and under is allowed. I then pointed out multiple people that were clearly under 21 going in and out and he changed it to we had to show him our ID and he would let the under agers in with us. And then said he was the wrong guy to pick an argument with. But yet the sign is still wrong and was also threatening to kick us off the pier and that it’s private property blah blah blah. Either the sign needs to be changed before someone sues for false advertising or the guy needs to get off his power trip and find a new job.

Stopped by to see what is open, fishing is open on the pier. The bar area has limited seating, the arcade is not open. The area looks good, following the new normal. Open 7 am to 7pm for fishing.

I would call Garden City, SC a perfect destination for all ages. There is plenty of beach to share, it is very quiet for retirees but at the same time theres a large beach, waterparks and miniature golf for families with children as well as Myrtle Beach State Park minutes away with a nature center, multiple trails, fishing pier and store and a large beach space. It is also one of the most affordable beaches you could venture to. There is a variety of restaurants for everyone's taste but also a large Kroger if you prefer to buy groceries and eat in.

Walked the pier at early evening. Arcade and small grill located inside. Restaurant w music also on outside. Bar with music stage on end of pier. Karaoke and bands play what seemed to be every night. Cannot go to end of pier at night unless 21 years old. Lots of fishing for small daily rate. Lots of seating and umbrellas. Walking the pier is always a necessity while on beach vacation!!

love this pier! Great music, food, bands and fire works. Wonderful place to be! We stayed beside it and could hear the music on the beach during the day. Everyone was so nice there and the drinks were great!

It’s a nice enough pier. We walked out to the end, it’s free to walk (Costs $ to fish). There’s a bar at the end of it which is kind of nice. Drinks aren’t anything special but it’s a nice addition. You can get some nice views of the coast and even see up to Myrtle Beach from the pier.

The pier and whole area are great. Lots of people fishing off all ends of the pier. A cool little arcade when you enter. The bars weren’t open but if they are, you can grab a drink and relax on the pier to some pretty amazing views.

Can you please tell me the best restaurants where there is OUTDOOR seating in this area of Garden City Beach?
Thank you!

I would go to Murrell's Inlet. Those are the best restaurants in the state. Our favorites are the Dead Dog and Drunken Jacks. There are many others along the Marshwalk. The pier at garden city just has burgers and fries etc. There is a nice restaurant near the pier called Sara J's. I'm not sure it has outdoor seating. I have not actually eaten there but my son and his wife did. It is on the marsh not on the beach.

You're wasting you time, as there are almost no fish to be caught.
And the answer is NO they do not sell bait or rent fishing rods.
There are only 1 or 2 bait shops in the Myrtle Beach/Garden City area.
If you want to fish go to a North Carolina beach from Morehead City to Hatteras...
P.S. you can't even fish from the Surfside Beach pier.
