This museum has been put together by a dedicated staff of volunteers under the able direction of Buddy Sturgis who previously directed the USS Yorktown Museum and Historical site in Charleston. I would have rated this excellent, but a few of the 19th century long arms were misidentified.

Interesting and professionally run museum highlighting the military history of the state in general and the SC National Guard, State Guard and militias. Also has an extensive collection of firearms from the Ross Beard collection.

This is such a gem! We ALWAYS take out of town guests here. Its free, well maintained, and FULL of amazing things to see. My kids love going every time! It is just big enough to be worth it and take your time wandering around, but not so huge that kids will get bored. Strollers would be just fine for... More

Our Genealogy group recently took a tour of this museum, and we were so happy to be able to see the wonderful job they've done. The buildings were clean and well-cared for, parking was close by, and the artifacts are just awesome. So many uniforms, weapons, and a whole room full of toys-jeeps, atv's, and even a helicopter. More were... More

This museum features artifacts and stories from service men and women from South Carolina. There is literally something from every era and conflict that America has been involved in. Military weapons and gear are displayed every where. The very sword that Robert E Lee broke over his knee when surrendering the civil war is in this museum. The kids enjoyed... More

This indoor museum is downtown next to the National Guard Armory. Very knowledgeable folks and surprising military exhibits. So much history in Columbia and South Carolina. Don't miss this. Donations accepted! Military vehicles, plaques and photos, money, MRE's, uniforms, videos, models...

I really appreciated this place. Wasn't sure what to expect but was impressed at the quality of the items, the amount of history packed into it, and the knowledge of those that worked there.
