We love this park! It is a BIT harder to navigate than some others, so that is why it got only 4 stars from us. But that hasn't stopped us from going. It has nice hiking type trails that are a bit more rustic, but all well maintained. NOT a good idea for strollers for most of the trails. But... More

Harbison State Forest is a natural oasis just outside of Irmo and Columbia. The hiking trails are numerous and varied, and mountain biking is also permitted.

When you pull into the forest there is a parking lot on the left and you will need to fill out the form and deposit your fee int he box, place it tag in your car. If the forest is open you can actually drive further in and park closer to the river. Trails are nice and easy walking and... More

The river carved this area into hills and bluffs. Great for hiking and it has varied plant life for the midlands. If you hike or run there, be alert for mountain bikers...frequently they do not call out to warn you they are coming.

Harbison State Forest has awesome trails - several different ones which are color coded. There is trail guide at the parking lot. There is a $5 fee to park (or $25 for an annual pass). Be sure to have correct change as there is a drop box for the fee. You can hike or bike the trails. Trails are well... More

I specifically chose the Midland trail because on the map it seemed to go right by the river - But the river was far enough away with enough forest between the path and the water we could see nothing. Even the Bluff Overlook didn't show much water. However, the hike was lovely, through gorgeous pine forest and other flora and... More

Haven't had the opportunity to explore all the trails, but the ones I have been on have been clean and nicely kept!

It always feels like such an unexpected get away place. It's close in to so much and yet you feel like you've escaped once you start your peaceful walk (or bike ride or jog; whatever you choose).

I had a great paddle at Harbison. However, there are a few steps to get there: 1. There is a $5 fee to get into Harbison. Have correct change (envelope drop). 2. You must file a float plan with park office to get combination to access road to parking lot to get to boat landing. Road has decent ruts in... More
