Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is home to nearly 2,000 animals that represent more than 350 species from around the world. A visit to the Zoo will play host to an array of wild adventures from a diving expedition on a Pacific coral reef to a safari through the plains of Africa to an interactive Outback encounter with a flock of sociable lorikeets.

The Botanical Garden boasts 70-acres of unparalleled beauty and is considered one of the America's best public gardens. Dramatic and themed gardens showcase more than 4,300 species of native and exotic plants, providing a living classroom for gardeners and non-gardeners alike.

The Garden also is the gateway to natural river views and spectacular valley overlooks. In addition, guests can view structural remains dating back to the early 1800s with South Carolina's textile industry and the Civil War.

I had a very good time at this zoo. The variety of animals was impressive. I would have liked the areas the animals were in were a little bigger. I felt the food available was very overpriced . I waited 30 minutes for a chicken sandwich at Tasker's and my order was wrong when I finally got it. However those... More

We hadn't been to zoo in a while until recently and were blown away by the changes! So many of the exhibits had been changed, allowing for a much clearer view of the animals, especially the lions and tigers and bears. The gorilla exhibit made it seem as if we were on the edge of a real jungle and the... More

The Riverbanks zoo has something for everyone. The animals, the gardens, the food and the educational opportunities are limitless at this zoo. Very few Small enclosures for any animals.

Great Zoo for adults and children. They have zip ride and climbing places (not included in admission) that are great for the young or young at heart.

We have been to the zoo multiple times. We have taken my sister's children and had an awesome time. When we visited 2/14/17 however the sea lion exhibit was closed.

We were in Columbia for a wedding and always try to visit AZA-accredited zoos when we travel. I hadn't done any research beforehand on what the zoo was like, so I was flabbergasted at how big and beautiful it was! Such gorgeous landscaping, signage, and exhibits. They had all the big-ticket animals you could ever want out of a zoo,... More

We loved this visit so much we bought a 1 year membership and we live 2 hours away! The interactive stations open the children's minds up to the need for conservation. Our 6 yr old daughter was in awe of the lorikeet feeding station, she insisted we visit twice so she could feed them breakfast and lunch. I have never... More

This was by far the smallest zoo I have been to. It however was well kept and had new attractions and buildings. A couple of the bigger attractions were closed for repairs when I was there but it was still nice. Also a few of the vendors were out of items on the menu which was a bummer after waiting... More

All-around great experience; never disappoints. New exhibits and animals coming all the time. The botanical gardens are a hidden pleasure. Never crowded.
