I’m a Civil War nut but I learned a ton on this tour. Very informative. Comfortable boat ride to and from but not narrated as described. Still, it was a pleasant boat ride. Once we arrived at the fort National Park staff gave a short presentation. Then, we walked around the fort grounds which was really neat. There were several park rangers that answered questions. They have a museum which has an original flag that was flown over the fort during the Civil War but due to Covid the museum was not open. The gift shop (the next door) was open??? This is worth the time and expense.

What a sweetheart deal for SpiritLine Cruises, the authorized National Park Service Concessioner who provides the only commercial boat transportation to Fort Sumter. There was no narration in either direction aboard this overpriced 30 minute ferry ride with junk food, Our National Park passes should have included a free ferry ride to historic Fort Sumteras is done on USN Tour to the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor ,rather than have our government sign a contract to ripoff visitors for a ferry ride. The Staten Island Ferry is free. On arrival to the Fort we were greeted by National Park Service Rangers. Ranger Tom Sobol was an articulate informative , knowledgeable, resource about the site ruins and and events of the American Civil War.

I love the history you see and hear on this trip. The ferry ride is nice and the park rangers are full of information to tell you. We asked a few questions walking around and got some great pictures.

Fort Sumter is full of incredible history. From both the Revolution and the Civil War. Park Rangers will give a brief over view of the Fort and it’s history and then you are free to roam the Fort on your own. The hour long stay on the Fort may not seem like enough time but it is certainly enough to give you sense of the challenges faced by the soldiers at the Fort.
