Located in the heart of downtown Charleston close to the Old Provost Dungeon and Powder Magazine this is one of the many public parks that highlight downtown. Statue of George Washington and a Marker that marks the site of the Centennial Fort Sumter Time Capsule. In the center of the park is a huge memorial sculptor and along the outside are smaller Memorials that are memories of Charlestons Historic post.

A nice park to visit with history, memorials near great restaurants. Great shade from the sun, park benches to rest (be mindful of bugs), and close to other sites. At just the square alone there's a statue of George Washington, an obelisk and the fire proof building. Across the way is also the pillar from the Giant's Causeway (Ireland) that not many know of.

Charming but relatively compact inner city park. My wife and I were in the area so we took the opportunity to walk around and spend some time relaxing. There were lots of walking tours coming and going but that didn't distract from the calmness of the park.

Washington square is a beautiful park in the heart of Charleston. We stopped at a bench and enjoyed the park for about 20 minutes

The Washington Square park is downtown in the historic area of Charleston on Broad Street. It’s a green park with flower beds and trees. The center of the park has a memorial to the Washington Light Infantry.

As the obelisk in the center draws you into in the park, you note the full statue of a man on one side and the bust of another man on another side. The obelisk is a memorial to the Washington Light Infantry and is about forty-two feet high. It is inscribed with the names of various battles. The full statue is of George Washington. The bust is of the Charleston poet Henry Timrod. Along the east wall of the park is a monument to Gen. Pierre Beauregard who was the Confederate general in charge of the city's defenses in 1862-1864. Huge trees provide shade to this quiet historical nook. You can learn some history of Charleston by visiting this park.

This is a small park that we happened on while walking around historical Charleston. What a pleasant surprise! It is quiet, peaceful with plenty of benches and shade trees.

While walking through Charleston we discovered Washington Square. We didn’t get to enjoy the “sit and relax” aspect of it as it was pouring ( all day) on our visit. Still, umbrellas in hand, we walked through, reading plaques on several monuments there, and could still appreciate it’s beauty!
Loved the George Washington statue especially. Directly behind him is sort of a mini Washington monument as you would see in D.C.
Walking around this small, this well-maintained park you will see other monuments, lovely flowers and inviting benches under cooling, tree branches .
Located across the Street from the Court house, so if you find yourself in that area, check out the park.

Washington Square is a lovely greenspace in downtown on Broad Street. There is a statue of Washington in the center of the park, hence the name. One may relax on a bench and sit in the shade.

Washington Square park is one of my favorite parks in Charleston. It is well maintained with plenty of big trees and shade to keep you cool on a warm day. This park is next to the courthouses and post office so I regularly find myself there when I am in need of a place to sit down and relax on a busy day. The park is equipped with wifi so it is also a good place to get some work done too. Occasionally the park can also be used as an event space and it always works well at all of the events I have attended there.
