This was the first tour I did in Charleston and it was the perfect way to start. Our tour guide was Evans and he was great. Evans seems to know everything about - and everyone in - Charleston. The wealth of knowledge Evans shared with us gave me a solid foundation for my visit and put me ahead of the curve on the other tours I took later. At our stop on Rainbow Row, Evans explained its origin and told us all about the suffragette Susan Pringle Frost and the work she did to preserve Charleston's historic buildings. Evans goes into so much detail you can almost visualize Charleston at that time. The highlight of the tour for me was when Evans told us the story of Robert Smalls. You could see how deeply affected Evans is by this man's story. Evans is a great storyteller and it's very obvious he cares deeply about the history of his hometown. He draws you in and makes you love Charleston almost as much as he does. I took several tours while I was in Charleston but I can honestly say I learned the most about the Holy City from Evans. I highly recommend taking a tour of Charleston with Evans.

We loved our history walking tour with Dennis. He has such an easy way about him and is a fabulous orator and story teller!
This tour was our very first stop in Charleston, and it was a great introduction to the city. We were able to see lots of historical locations and used that information to formulate a plan on places that we wanted to return to in order to learn and experience more.
This tour is a LOT of walking (my fitness tracker said 3 miles at the end), and it should be noted that the sidewalks in Charleston are uneven. This tour may be difficult for someone with limited mobility, but if you’re up for the walk, I’d highly recommend checking it out!

The walking tour was simply amazing! This was my first time in Charleston and this tour made me really understand the historical impact this beautiful city has had on life as we know it! I was shown beautiful gardens, lovely water fountains, fun parks, interesting museums, and amazingly old structures each telling a story. The tour guide we had was absolutely wonderful! She gave us time to ask questions between each of her fact filled story's. She was super excited about what she was saying and where she was taking us which made all of use super excited to see and learn! She even had a 3D model to show us that she had built herself! She had maps and pictures and was pretty much like a walking Wikipedia of the whole place. It was an absolute pleasure! Her name was Amy Tankersley! She is the best! and she will keep you in the shade!

John was our tour guide and he was so friendly and knowledgeable about Charleston. About halfway through the tour, it started to rain, but he powered through and tried to find areas under awnings to protect those who didn’t have an umbrella. John even gave his umbrella to a couple of girls who didn’t have one. Such a gentleman! His stories and honest stories of Charleston’s history were great and has made this one of my favorite cities. I hope we will be able to visit again soon!

There are other ways to tour the city (buses and carriage rides) but they can’t always go the same places that the walking tours can go, so I’d do the walking tour if you’re able!

I work in the travel industry and have the privilege of getting to hear lots of local guides. None of them can top the experience we had today with Amy as our guide. She had a thorough knowledge of the architecture, history, plants, and anything else you could think to ask about the city of Charleston and the surrounding areas. She also encouraged questions. She projects when she speaks and does this all with a smile and engaging delivery. We are so glad that we chose this tour today and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a walking tour of the city.

Hearing the stories about Charleston and exploring the area on foot was one of the highlights of our time in this beautiful, historic city. The guide was knowledgeable and entertaining, and we learned a lot about the architecture, the history, and the botanical beauty of the area. It was a great experience!

Amy was a very knowledgable and entertaining guide. She did a great job of showing us the city and making sure we were comfortable on a very hot day. She even had bug spray for us to ward off the mosquitos. Her knowledge spanned many subjects and all time periods, and she even had a really cool model to provide context on the old walled city. Highly recommended for both tourists and long time residents!

The Charleston History Tour from Walks of Charleston is a great way to learn about the history and architecture of Charleston. Our tour guide, Evans, had hundreds of hours of training and was extremely entertaining, and had fun insights into some of the quirky history of the the city, as well as some little known stories. Even my teenage son was engaged. I would recommend this tour to everyone!

Thank you kindly for your review! We think this tour is a fascinating and unique way to experience another side to Charleston, one that not every visitor gets to see. And having a knowledgeable and passionate guide like Evans to bring it to life makes all the difference. Thanks again for your vote of confidence. We look forward to the next time!

We took a walking tour with Amy Tankersley, and could not have been more pleased! She was witty and very informative. I wasn't sure how strenuous this would be, and it was perfect. Amy stopped along several key spots and spoke for several minutes, which gave us all a time to rest before moving on to the next location. We saw all of the main historic areas during our walk, and Amy narrated the tour very clearly and answered any and all questions. She even had a model of the walled section of the city that she made herself! After the tour was over, she recommended several places to get lunch and directed us back to the start, if that was what we wanted. I would recommend Amy and the Walks of Charleston tour to anyone interested in seeing this beautiful city up close.

We booked the first trip of the day on a Saturday and so glad we did - streets weren't crowded or busy yet. Doing the tour at the beginning of our trip helped me appreciate more of what I saw on the rest of the trip. Our guide, Wendy was a great story teller and very knowledgeable and passionate. She even made sure to help us get a restroom stop in midway. Her walking speed was reasonable and she did a great job of waiting to share information until the whole group was gathered close. Thank you, Wendy!
