It's a nice little jaunt around Charleston, with a guided tour and history of the area. They also give you a background on the humane treatment of the horses, which is nice to know.

My first concern when seeing working horses is their well-being. We did some research before booking this tour and thought the general feedback was that the horses were well looked after and I am very happy to report that they were. The tour guide (I...More

This tour is like many offered by other companies. Our tour guide did share historical information and had great knowledge of the architecture. However, his jokes were sexist such as telling the men repeatedly that they needed to “watch out” for the women spending “their”...More

Matt and Don did a great job on our 1 hour carriage tour. Matt really knew his Charleston history and really engaged the group. An abundance of sights and history makes this tour a must do while in Charleston.

This tour was very informative, thanks to our guide Al and his horse, Trevor. In about an hour, we traveled through the Battery area, which is one of five routes that the carriages can take through out the city. If you are looking for something...More

Best picnic lunch for Waterfront park (1 Replies)
My family and I are coming in late July and will be doing a morning horse carriage ride. I want to grab some food to go to have a picnic at Waterfront park with the kids. We will probably walk from the Charleston Carriage Works (think near City Market) to the park. Are there any good deli's, hamburger or other quick to go choices? Although we will be taking it to go I still want good fresh food, so no chains please. This will be our first trip to Charleston. Thanks!

The Griffon on Vendue Range is across the street from the fountain and nice grassy areas. They have (to go or eat in) pub grub sandwiches, burgers or salads. They make a blackened chicken salad that is delicious!
