Brilliant way to see the city! Our two legged guide, Scott and four legged guide, Ron effortlessly navigated the city and provided interesting back stories and facts that were impressive, even to my Citadel graduate, South Carolina native host.

The tour is just the right length - leaving me to want to see more of the city and providing just enough detail that we were never bored. I highly recommend making this your first stop in Charleston.

As for COVID-19, all guests were required to wear a mask and everyone complied. Very well done.

We took our first carriage tour in Charleston in about 2016. We have since moved to the Charleston area and have enjoyed the ride four more times. Whenever we have out-of-town guests, we always book a ride!

You never know which "tour" you are going to get. After everyone is aboard, the driver goes to a little stand and is assigned an area of Charleston to tour. ALL the carriage companies go to this stand. It's what keeps all the carriages spread out over the area and dnot bunching up into a huge traffic jam.

All the ca rriage drivers know the area well and usually through in interesting stories and annecdotes to make the tour memorable. Two rides back we were so taken with our driver CAROL that we have started requesting her. Yesterday, unfortunately, she wasn't working so we were assigned MADISON. Golly, she was great too!

Our guests grumbled a bit about the price - $50 each. But, when we returned they said, "It was more than worth every single penny!!" Definitely, the best tourist attraction in Charleston!!

Perfect way to spend our first morning in town. I lived everything about this tour. 1 hour was the perfect amount of time to get a quick overview of the city. The carriage ride was a fun way to see and experience the history of the city. Our tour guide, Eric, was super knowledgeable, funny and attentive. This was one of my favorite activities of the trip!

We had a great tour through the Battery and Rainbow Road. Our tour guide, Matt, was very knowledgeable, with lots of historical background and personal anecdotes. Our kids (8-17) and our in-laws (70’s) all enjoyed it as well, interesting for all ages! Definitely recommend.

Our guide, Scott, was entertaining, witty and clearly loves what he does. It was fascinating to see the relationship between him and Buster, the horse. We learned a great deal about historic Charleston from our experience. Highly recommend.

Apologies for not remembering our guides name, but he was fantastic. He mentioned doing these tours for 20+ years and it was very evident from his knowledge of the area. My husband and I both wished we could have continued for another hour or more just to hear all of the fascinating stories.

We arrived as first timers in Charleston mid afternoon and thought a carriage ride would be a good intro. We were greeted courteously with smiles. Eric was our driver and he was fantastic (don’t forget tipping). To keep all carriage rides from running over you the city assigns you an area and ours was #3. Every building we saw had a story. A few days later we walked by and as it was not too busy at the moment we were able to visit Deuce in his stall. What an unforgettable experience.

Absolutely fantastic tour.
The knowledge of our local tour guide (8th generation Charleston native) was unbelievable.
He truly loves his city.
Our history expert teenager was
In awe! Not sure there isn’t something this gentleman didn’t know...
Very clean carriage, they even supplied every person with a bottle of hand sanitizer.
Very friendly people. We reserved online two weeks prior to our trip... very friendly website!

The hotel recommended this carriage tour. When we arrived we
put our names on a list no other name was on the list. We waited 55 minutes for the next tour which was fine. Many other people arrived for the tour after we arrived. When it was time to board the man boarded almost everyone who came after us and then when my husband asked what was going on. The young man was rude and told us if we want to sit in front we can wait for the next tour over a hour away. I told my husband it was ok we would go back to the hotel and get a refund. Then the man ran after us and apologized. To little to late. He didn't say anything about the rules so we didn't know. We had with us my soon to be eight-nine year old mother and 10 year old granddaughter. What a poor example Charleston hospitality.

When I initially read your review, I thought you had mistaken us for another tour company. However, after investigating, I discovered that your review is posted in the right place. When you check in for your tour, we don’t assign seats in any fashion other than keeping groups together. When the carriages board we always seat them front to back. Most groups don’t have a preference of where they sit. Some groups request specific rows (the back is the most common) and we are always able to accommodate them. In your situation, we did not know that you wanted to sit in the front row. You expected that since you checked in first that you would be seated on the first row but you didn't share that with us. By the time you let us know, the front row was already seated. Unfortunately, the next carriage to depart had people who requested the front row scheduled, so the next one was 2 carriages away. We offered that to you. Our staff member wasn't rude – you were simply furious at the wait. The reason “the man” ran after you was because the people who were seated in the front row of the carriage you were scheduled on could easily hear you yelling at us and offered to move for you. They, like most, didn't care where they were sitting and were trying to help us diffuse your “situation”. THAT is Charleston hospitality. We were able to work it out but you had decided to be angry instead. It is hardly fair that you then go and post this review, esp. since you didn't even take the tour after we had managed to work it out for you, but such is the internet. That said, I think when people read your review and understand what really happened, they will also understand that we went above and beyond in trying to help you, esp. considering the way you treated us. When they come and take a tour with us and request a specific row, they will certainly understand that your experience with us was by your own hand. We work very hard to take great care of our customers and I am truly sorry for your experience, but I don’t think there is anything we could have done differently.

Our guide and carriage ride were the worst part of our visit to Charleston. If this is who represents this city to tourists. Visitors will not be back. This tour does a disservice to tourists and the city.

Our guide made inappropriate comments. For example, she said the church was a little off center because it "is left leaning". The guests, including my husband and me, were visibly disturbed. She wasn't funny. Not once did she mention any positive African American contributions. While she did point out the decorative iron gates, She never pointed out that Charleston native Philip Simmons, National Endowment of the arts and Presidential awardee whose works are in the Smithsonian, designed them. The only mention of black people was when she said, literally, "Denmark Vesey, a slave and his buddies got together and planned on burning the town dow, killing men, women and children. So, they were caught and hanged and that's why the spikes are in the gates, to keep the slave in their place." She said it as if slaves shouldn't have wanted to be free. I had to say out loud, "imagine that. A slave wanting to escape."

And, "the slave market isn't where they were sold. They worked there." If I could have jumped out of the ride, I would have.
She completely left out any African American contributions. And, she covered only one battle that South Carolina won in the war.

If you want a one sided, sarcastic view of Charleston, by all means select this company. I will tell everyone to stay away. You should really spot check for the quality of your guides.
